Sythe.org : Redesigning the Marketplace

Forum layout is an extremely early concept, shouldn't be shown yet, but is just there to show you that I am going for a fixed forum size and such. Icons and placement of things are still deemed to be changed, so don't judge too early!

Holy shit; When i quickly read the title i thought it said "Resigning The Marketplace" I was like. WTF?

Just some feedback on what's there at the moment:

• It looks like it'll be a fixed width, don't do that
• Less focus on the background design and more focus on the content
• Huge navigation will just take up more space to the content, don't forget there'll be ads
• Logo is also too large, using sword as a T might be a bad idea for new visitors, also seems too Runescape-y
• I do like how donations is brought into the navigation, maybe we can remove it from the forum category
• Start planning out for the ad spots for the best results
• Also keep in mind the page load time, if it's all images, load time will drastically increase; I believe you designed the WAD website? That's an example of terrible load time

That's all for now.

 

It will all be coded in CSS by Govind, so no image loading times, there will be 5-10 more images to load in comparison with the current theme (Textures on top of thread posts and such), website loading time won't be an issue.
As said in the original post, the layout preview is still in extreme early development, to be honest I just worked 20 minutes on it, which is 1/100th of the full time I will be spending on it.
I am aiming for a sword styled logo as our mainstream audience is RuneScape related, or just gaming related, we have to keep that in mind.
I appreciate your comments on this, but as said, it is in extremely early development, I have to do all kind of stuff with it still.

 

The early concept is good. I'm really liking it! Can't wait to see final results.

 

The background details are overshadowing the actual content area. It should be more web 2.0 as much as I hate to say it. Sythe isn't a clan forum so it shouldn't have a gaudy look about it. The nav bar just doesn't work at all for sythe. It should be simple and not overly contrasty with most of the colors falling in similar value range. In my opinion it just doesn't really work for Sythe. It isn't a re-envisioning of the current theme it looks more like a gaming clan forum and not a professional market.

 

I have to agree with this. It looks great Kin, but as I mentioned before, I'm not a fan of the whole theme.

Should be aiming to keep it simple and professional, with a simplistic theme, not only Runescape (mainly) related. Think of all the other sections we have, irrelevant of their activity.

I only see the sword.

But here's my input on it, it reminds me too much of PlayerAuctions. I instantly thought it looked like something, and it reminded me of PA.

 

Not keen on the sword personally. Seems a bit sloppy in the first image.

 

Sword looks like a childs drawing.

 

Do you not know what a concept drawing is? It's the outline for the second and third image.

 

looks pretty good man except you are overshadowing which is crushing the detail around the sword. It's a cool concept so far but i think like the others said; looks to fit a more clan website.
