[Working out specifics]Market Redesign

Now that all three votes came back with a super-super majority I want to get suggestions for specifics. I'm starting from scratch with the diagram that we voted on.

Please list and number suggestions. Removing the price checks forum is ONE suggestion. Changing the name of the XBox market to consoles and adding XBox and PS3 subsections is also ONE suggestion. I want them split up into individually doable ideas so that we can easily get counts of who likes what and what they do not like. If your suggestion is complex or not easily understandable, change the diagram below. We are assuming all subsections are staying so if you want to change that, indicate it. If you want to add one, go ahead and just indent it more (and make it clear you mean in addition to the current subsections or not).

Staff: Feel free to post in the Staff Lounge if you don't want to post publicly.

 

I definitely think Steam needs a seperate section.

 

I wouldn't mind seeing it setup like this.

Then drop STWOR in other game markets (since it's very inactive). With the little activity it does have, it'd be a decent little boost to the Other Games Markets. Steam 100% does deserve it's own subsection though. I think it only fits in other games markets. With that being said, I think it'd be ideal to have it at the top.

 

I actually think it'd be better to have other game discussion above the runescape discussion. If we really want to make this site show that it is expanding, having the relevant discussion forums (not just the market) in plain site would be beneficial.

 

Like.... On the front page? If so where? SPECIFICS MAN. SPECIFICS!

I honestly think the best way for this to work would be if the forums allowed subforums to be visible below the listed forum as to save space.

The current method it's using is too big and clunky, if subforums were to be visible you could list them as
-> Markets
- Game market
Runescape, World of Warcraft, Diablo III, etc

And honestly the proposed "fix" will just make it worse.

I don't think having the idea of console markets is a good idea. The xbox market needs to be on the front page as it gets a shed load of activity. Also, I believe ps3 market should be trialed on the front page.

 

Thus making the front page bigger and clunkier.

Would save up a -ton- of space on the front page.

 

Well the xbox section NEEDS to be on the front page, and then people will complain about PS3 not being on the front page still, it is worth a try.

This. These two are the main suggestions I really wish to see implemented. The Steam Sections own section under the Other Games Markets is necessary and overdue in my opinion.

 

I can't honestly say that I'm too crazy about the idea of steam having it's own section. I personally would like to see the other game markets section's name revamped entirely and maybe it change it something to along the lines of MMORPG's or something similar. Something that would fit all of the actual games in there.

Is it too far fetched to suggest putting Steam & Console markets in their own section? Xbox Market doesn't deserve it's own independent section on the front page, even with PS3. If you were to combine steam & console markets however, then I could see that working. Reason said is, steam doesn't fit any where else better than with console markets, right? I'm not personally into steam games, but from what I've gathered, aren't the games very similar? More similar to the console market than anything else, right?

If you were to combine steam & console markets, it'd be one section with maybe 2-3 subsections. If you threw it underneath the RuneScape Market, then made it clear what it was for, I think it'd be a very good section to help Sythe grow. Reason being is, if you threw each one (especially the console markets) own the front page by theirselves, they'd get overlooked due to lack of activity. They deserve an entire dedicated section to themselves but they don't deserve separate sections.

Just my two cents.

 

Naming subsections such as 'non-game items' and 'Non-Virtual Items', just makes it more confusing to actually understand what that section is for. Should be named something alot more simple and understandable.

I also think having 'Other Game Markets' and then a follow on with 'Other Markets' isn't the best idea. Meaning, a the 'Other Markets' should be named something else, to avoid confusion.

 

No. It was already decided we are having three front page categories.

I need specifics. I'm not a magical name producing fairy.

Can you do what you are saying to my diagram? I think I understand what you are saying but I'm not positive.

Something like that. I also through in "services" under "other markets", because I think that also should be added. There's a strong enough market for youtube, facebook, etc services. I don't think it's been suggested before, but I'm just going to suggest it now.

As to my other comment earlier, I don't think stwor should have a subsection in other game markets (in mmorpgs). I think it should just be taken out, and if people want to trade it, they can do so in the other game markets. STWOR just doesn't deserve it's own sub section.

 

So I'm thinking we do that. Star wars is dead. Get rid of it. MMO Markets is booming (More active over its three subsections than XBox markets has) so I want it displayed where it's easy to find. The Other sales subsection of Other Games (aka: http://sythe.org/forumdisplay.php?f=370) is also basically as active as XBox so it should jump to the front too.

We'll keep Other MMO's subsections and we can add subsections to Miscellaneous Markets if need be.

That's what I thought you meant. I just don't think PS3 has enough activity to warrant front page status. It doesn't at all. Not even a single post today.

I'm all for steam being on the front page but I don't want a two section category.

 

What about throwing in steam & xbox together then throwing in a misc section? I'm sure there's some other kind of market that can be squeezed into that little category, I just can't think of it atm.

I just personally hate to see steam as a standalone, and I hate to see the xbox market excluded.
