    My Hands Feel Weird?

    Hello Sythe,
Yeah, yeah, this isn't a Doctors forum, but it is basically the only forum i ever go on so hear me out.

I do smoke weed, for about a year, mostly every 2-3 weeks, sometimes less frequently, but for the last few months i've been doing it at parties and with my mates every Friday/Saturday night. Yes, im not your typical "Smoke weed erryday" stoner, but i still feel like it is affecting me.

I'm doubting that its the weed that is giving me these extremely weird feelings in my hands (Almost numb, when i feel things they feel different, for example when i touch cold metal, it feels very very weird, or if i am typing on my computer, my fingers start to feel uncomfortable) mainly because i've never heard of it as a side-effect, but i've started taking Protein supplements and working out at the Gym around a month ago. I have googled the problem, and found that people that are unfit (Im underweight, not over) and suddenly change there diet and start doing exercise can get weird feelings in there hands/feet from the increased circulation.

Most of you probably don't care, but i really want to know if this is the start of the bad side effects from the weed? (I have a history of Mental illness in my family, my uncle smoked weed daily throughout his teenage years and he is a nut now) If you don't feel like helping, at least let me know if you have any other side-effects from weed.

    Cheers Sythe.

I'm sorry but you admit this, doesn't this give you second thoughts about smoking weed? It may seem fun at first but it gives you a nice feeling by blocking nerve receptors in the brain that basically decide if you are enjoying yourself or not. This will damage them over time which means you will find regular things less fun. In extreme cases, this causes extreme depression which leads to further addiction and even death from weed as they must take dangerous levels to experience a high as they are so accustomed to it. I don't know about your hands but you may want to rethink your smoking habit man.

EDIT: Not to mention the extreme amounts of cash a hobby like this can chew up

Smoking weed makes you stupid. Period. I smoke weed, but it does kill brain cells over time.

The average stoner loses 8 IQ points in a lifetime, I think it is.

go see a doctor. Or if you live the usa a nice self diagnosis is always free.

OR since you have a history of mental illness in your family. You have have a pre disposition for being a phciso and the weed brought that out and your totally fucking crazy.

It is true that being predisposed to mental illness can trigger a mental illness with weed smoking. Essentially all any drug that acts on your brain does is create a chemical imbalance.

When you smoke weed you're essentially poisoning your body. I wouldn't be surprised.

hows your posture? do you get sore shoulders/back/neck or joints?

What you're experiencing could be a pinched nerve or tightened muscles causing the numbness or lack of blood flow, maybe go see a physio

    My Hands Feel Weird?

My girlfriend is an RN when i asked her what this could be she said this. Does the pain start at the wrist and move into your palm and fingers? If so thats carpul tunnel or however you spell it. When you get high you prob game it up and text etc. Causing inflamation. Dude go see a doc. Smoking weed is harmless and actually is a mild pain reliever used in the medical form to treat alot of ailments.

Unless you are predisposed to psychosis or other mental illnesses. It's a danger to mess with an already screwed up brain.

My grandparents weren't physchos, they just had depression, my uncle went "Nuts", my mums definition of nuts was that he got high, went to a police station and asked for a license to shoot goats in Afghanistan lol. He is the only case of someone in my family being a "Screwed up" Pyscho. My grandpa just had strong/severe depression, im told.
I know i shouldn't mess around in the shit, but is once a week or every 2-3 weeks really that bad? Some of my friends get stoned daily, and i can see it affecting them academically but they are far from psycho.

    My Hands Feel Weird?

I've been smoking weed for nearly 2 and a half years. For over a year of that time I was smoking1-2 grams a day. Being I would wake up at 6am, and zero two 1/3rd of a gram Gravity Bong hits from 3 liter cranberry juice bottles, and then repeat after school, and before bed. This means I was taking 6 of these 3 liter gravity bongs myself every day, and going through a quarter ounce to a half ounce of pot every week (7-14 grams). I have Bipolar Disorder, ADD, and multiple members of my family (including grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc) have been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder or depression. My dad is an alcoholic, pain drug abusing, ex-heroin addict. I can tell you right now that your issues with your hands feeling weird is 100% completely unrelated to your pot use.

Now, I have had strange feelings with my fingertips, but they have always been proven by doctors to be related to other things, such as: POTS (Positional Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) which basically means that whenever I sit up and stand up my blood pressure plummets and my pulse literally doubles (Goes from 70 to ~140-150 simply standing up) which can cause lightheadedness, tingly or numb fingertips/nose/cheeks, etc. My cardiologist just told me to increase my daily salt intake and to stop taking one of the muscle relaxants I was taking for headaches due to an injury my Freshmen year. I did as he said and most everything went back to normal. Exercise can make the above symptoms worse if it's not treated.

Another thing that can cause strange feelings in your hands is dehydration or poor breathing, or even not eating enough calories throughout the day. Medication for ADD or ADHD, or many other illnesses/conditions can cause shortness of breath, changes in blood pressure or Heart rate which can lead to tingly or numb sensations in fingers, feet, nose, etc.

Honestly, start writing down your every-day behaviors and activities. Record what you eat, how much you exercise, what medication/supplements/vitamins you take, and everything you do throughout your day. Do this for a few days or even a week or two, and then look at each day and find what is similar from day to day. Find the similarities and try and trial and error series of tests where you simply cut out one of the everyday behaviors/activities/supplements/food/etc for a few days to see if you notice any difference.

This is 100% false. Scientists have done testing to find the amount of THC it would take to kill animals ranging from mice to dogs to monkeys. While it was possible to kill a mouse by overdosing it on THC, scientists were unable to kill any animal larger than a dog (small dog), even with amounts of THC that would be physically impossible to put into your system. According to their "projected" value of THC that you would have to put into your body to kill yourself by overdose was the equivalent to smoking 15,000 joints (~0.5 grams per joint) in a period of 20 minutes to kill yourself. That is physically impossible to do. 15,000 joints @ half a gram per joint = 7,500 grams = over 16.5 POUNDS of marijuana fully smoked in 20 minutes. That would mean smoking 375 grams every 60 seconds, that's 6.25 grams every single second for 20 minute straight. So yeah, not physically possible. You would fall asleep before you got anywhere close to a toxic level.

Also, it does not damage the nerves of the brain. What it does is THC & CBD bind like a fat to different neurotransmitters which slows down the speed at which they can communicate with each other. This "damage" as you call it has been proven to completely disappear over 30-90 days for the average smoker. I can point you directly to the full documented study that shows no brain cell death from smoking marijuana. They've even got other studies that have shown that smoking weed actually helps protect your brain from ethanol (basically drinking alcohol) induced cell death.

Even further, in regards to addiction: Marijuana has been rated as addictive or less addictive than Caffeine by multiple groups of doctors, and actually shares the same statistical rate of addiction as Caffeine. Both Caffeine AND Marijuana share 9% of users becoming addicted. While I do admit from personal experience that it IS possible to become physically addicted, the chances and intensity at which you have to be smoking is staggering to the point where it's exceedingly rare to encounter any similar cases. Even so, I'm a perfect example as to how it's extremely easy to go from smoking 2 grams a day to many weeks without using, and even over long term, only using 3 times in the past month. It's really not that hard to take a break from weed or minimize use; it just takes some willpower and distracting yourself with stuff to do. Honestly, saying weed will lead to horrible addiction is like saying caffeine is going to do the same. The statistics are the same, so.

Also, go ahead and call me biased, but I'm willing to accept any legitimate medical study that shows weed does X or Y, as long as the study sample size is decently large and the study seems to be doing a good job of controlling for different variables. I also actually gain access to the Full study, not just a news article or the Abstract, and I read in depth and find all of the information that is normally left out by news reports or articles.

Also, in regards to the predisposition things: First of all, Weed does not "cause" Schizophrenia, period. However, if you do have a genetic predisposition (meaning it's in your family's genetics and medical history for Schizophrenia) all it does is, if you ARE going to get it at any point, regular weed use will shorten the time before you start showing symptoms by an average of 2.7 years. This means, if you did not smoke weed, you would still start having symptoms about 3 years later than you would have if you'd smoked weed. If you are not going to develop schizophrenia at any point in your life, then weed has no affect on your risk of developing psychosis.

I've suffered from swapping between Manic and Depressive multiple times throughout the year for many years, and I can tell you from experience, that if you're not smoking the weed to escape from your depression/feelings/stress then you won't have to worry much about spiraling downwards. If you are just smoking every once in awhile with friends to have a little fun, some laughs, etc, then chances are you'll end up just like Obama. Let me elaborate on that a bit: Obama smoked a helluva lot of weed in High school with his friends (who are all now businessmen, lawyers, doctors, etc), invented roof hits (sucking the smoke off the roof of a hotboxed car), Total Absorption (taking a hit and then holding the smoke in long enough that when you exhaled, no smoke comes out) to the point where if you failed to succesfully do TA, you were skipped in the rotation next time around. Obama smoked hella weed, but obviously just used it for some fun with friends instead of sulking in his own misery. Look at him now, President of the United States. it's really all about responsible use, just like any legal drug we see today (Alcohol, for example, has nearly 2x higher rate of addiction than weed, and yet people still praise alcohol like it's perfectly fine).

Also, a tip from personal experience: Never or rarely ever smoke and get high alone. Be in the habit of doing it with friends for fun, not personal alone time.

I highly doubt you are having these problems because of the weed, you should probably bring it up at the doctors if you are concerned about it or just let them know when you are visiting about something more serious.

Eventhough it's none of my business and I do not have ANYTHING against it since I have done it myself, I really think that smoking weed multiple times a week is a bad choice because it does effect your mentality in a way that is the most harmful for a young person.

I would suggest that you go and get it checked because if you think or feel that something is wrong then it is better if you get it checked early before it is too late.
