can schools/jobs actually see your facebook if its on private?

To me its all a load of shit. I dont think jobs or schools can see your facebook unless you access facebook on one of their computers.?

Teachers at my school always try to scare kids and say they can see our facebooks even if theyre private.

My question is, can they actually do this?i know they can if they have a fake account and have you added as a friend, or one of your friends shows them the facebook, but besides that i dont know how they would be able to access a private facebook.

 

They see what the public sees. They only say stuff like that to make you behave on it and don't start drama up on it. They could make a fake account and add you as a friend, but I doubt people are that extreme.

If your Facebook settings are set to private, then you're fine. Just check your friend's list now and again and who you are about to accept as a friend for those who add you.

 

Schools, checking Facebook? Seriously.. What the fuck. What you do in your own time and online is down to you, they should have no say in your personal life.
Jobs / Employees on the other hand might take interest into your personal life and how you are. I wouldn't upload a load'a shit like "Getting twatfaced with the lads!" because that probably won't go down well with ya boss. Becareful who you add, they might be a spy!

last year i was running for 'head boy' at my high school and in the weeks leading up had been to a course called outward bound (team building yadayada) anyway, with a private facebook i uploaded this photo of me shitting in a river which the other pupils were drinking downstream (it was hilarious at the time)
I got pulled up for it by my head of year and ended up getting in a shitload of trouble, if you pardon the pun.

OT:There is no way they can see your info, unless somebody from your friends leak it obviously.

 

Schools and Companies can only see what a public Facebook user who is not on your friends list. You can simulate your profile so it looks like what it looks like to X person, friends, friends of friends, etc.

There are some situations where they will be able to see it, and here are some examples:

You go into the interview room for a potential new job. In many states companies can legally require you to log into your Facebook account on their computer, right in front of them. They then have the ability to have to show them any part of your Facebook, your user history, etc. However, in some states, this is illegal. Illinois just passed a law saying that forcing job applicants to log into their Facebooks and show their potential future employeers their Facebook, calling it an invasion of privacy. So, basically, check your state's laws on the matter.

Also, the only way someone will be able to gain access to information on a completely private Facebook will be if someone you are friends with (or friends of friends if you have your settings up for that) shows the evidence/information to the people you want to keep it from.
