I want to learn, but how?

So for some time now I've wanted to learn 'Coding'. I'm VERY much so a noob at this and wouldn't know the first place to start... I'd like to know how to make a script or other various applications or programs for me, or other users to learn.

I understand this will take a long time, but I REALLY want to learn. I was wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction. I wouldn't really like to pay any money on purchasing E-books or anything like that (yeah call me cheap, IDC! ) I just want to learn in my own time, and want to learn something new and useful!

I plan to stick around here for a good few years and want to get stuck in and make the most of it. If ANYONE could please help me out, or even point me in the right direction I would be forever grateful.

Please don't post hateful comments dissing my lack of knowledge because everyone has to learn at some point!

Python is the best language to start with, particularly because you can execute right off of the command line. While you can read online, it is best to download some books and learn from there.

Are you looking at just sticking to RuneScape based applications? If so i would go with Java. If not go with C.

Then as for learning the language it all depends what kind of 'learner' you are, i myself am i 'hands on' learner so i just downloaded source codes of projects and poked around with the code finding out what things did. I can honestly say that i only read very few tutorials.

This website might be of some help. This is the website we were given to learn off of in my senior year of high school, and was the first time i learned about computer programming. Hope this helps.
