All the possible trials end with the botter being permanently banned. It seems the trial just chooses what animation plays: being stomped into the ground by a big red foot, swallowed into an abyss that appears out of nowhere, or burnt to a crisp via bright lights from the sky.

Not really much of a trial, when you think about it.

This. It's pretty much just Jagex trying to get regular players to see they actually do ban bots. And for regular players to have some fun laughing and swearing about people who bot. I reckon regular players will get bored of it after like a month, then no-one will be at the "Trials."

Bots have survived a bot nuke... They will not go away after this. Jagex can't stop someone who is 2 steps ahead..

    Botany Bay update

    /sigh

You really don't seem to understand the concept of this update, do you?

Jagex is fully aware that botting will never 100% go away from RS. Jagex knows they cannot permanently break bots like what they tried to do with the first Bot Nuke, so this update is geared towards Automatically Detecting and Mass Banning bots. The goal is to ban enough bots that there is an obvious improvement in the in-game economy and improved socialization between players competing over resources. They fully understand that with this system players will still choose to decide to bot and what-not, but they know that they do not have to wait long before the detectable bots are caught and removed. If the system is as effective as they seem to be making it out to be, while that doesn't mean they will remove botting from the game, but it will mean that they will greatly discourage players from continuing to bot and will definitely drastically lower the amount of bots in-game.
