The Average Person Swallows 8 Spiders a Year

Hmm maybe I should try stuffing a feather in my mouth and falling asleep with it in my mouth then.

 

It will get wet and it won't tickle you. But if you sleep with your mouth open and I put a dead fly or something in your mouth, then tickle your lips you'll swallow it

 

I wouldn't be overly surprised if you did swallow a couple of tiny insects or spiders in your life. I'd assume they'd only be millimetres in diameter or whatever.

 

That's a myth. Spiders don't like dying, so crawling into the mouth of a breathing animal isn't something they actually would do. (Unless it accidentily falls straight into your mouth and you decide to swallow)

I want to see if anyone actually ever tested this, just watching someone sleep every night for a year? Doubt it has been tested. Also, if it is true, as kill dank said, it is only an average.

 

I've heard this for a while and I don't doubt it at all. I don't see why it's so hard believe. It's not like everyone swallows at least 8 spiders a year, but I'm sure it does happen on occasion. That doesn't even include other insects. I see bugs in my apartment all the time and I can think of many times in my life where I've accidently swallowed one. I thought my bug problem was bad at times, but it's nothing compared to some places in the World. I'm sure a lot of people eat a ridiculous amount of bugs each year.

I live in Australia, i don't want to know about the kind of shit that crawls into my mouth. This statistic probably comes from campers/homeless/people who lay in spider nests in their leisure time.

 

I'm sorry guys, but no, this is not true. Please, from now on use your brains when you consider 'facts'. To come to such a conclusion, a consensus study would have to be enacted, with millions of variables affecting such an average, it'd be 'impossible' to obtain an 'actual' average regarding humans everywhere. To obtain an average for a certain GROUP of people, this would entail recording them sleeping for 'months' on end, and not just a few people too.. It would then require meticulously analyzing the mountain of footage and would cost millions if not billions for a ridiculous statistic.

This 'fact' was created by columnist Lisa Holst in 1993 as part of a study regarding the gullibility of people using the internet and accepting 'facts' they come across as truth.

 

people thinking they are all from when you sleep are absolutely crazy.. im sure a single person is FED more bugs than 10 people eat while sleeping combined. Bugs get into food all the time, after all bugs need to eat too. whether its when the food is being harvested processed or prepared there are bugs in nearly all of it. The bugs entering your mouth while sleeping is a myth as that very rarely would happen at all.. but people inadvertently eat bugs/pieces of bugs daily

specifically spiders ? Fuck if i know, but seeing as everyone accidentally eats bugs i wouldnt be surprised if some spiders got in every once in a while

I sleep with my window open and have seen spiders crawling along my bed plenty of times.
It may be a myth or not, but I would be more shocked if I hadn't eating any.

 

Last time I checked spiders weren't very well versed in human anatomy.

This would really have to depend on where you live. Some places are just crawling with spiders everywhere, others its so rare to see them.

I live in the UK and its rare for me to spot a spider around the house or by my window, so i wouldn't be surprised if i have never swallowed one during sleep.

Then in other places you see spiders all the time and always catching them in your house and so on, in this circumstances i would imagine it very plausible to swallow several spiders in your lifetime.

But you must all remember it is indeed an AVERAGE, some people might swallow 20, others 0, ALOT of factors influence the outcome for each individual.
