JAG - Jagex Account Guardian live!

We were speaking about this in some of the posts above...
However, it will definitely improve security... but as Mustard said Jagex's policy has always been to return the account to its original owner if they can provide enough proof :/

I hope they come up with an idea that once the account is transferred there's no way for the other person to recover it. Maybe one day or with a future JAG update.

 

Not from a black-market point of view,
but simply as rs-player point of view I really like this update.

Definitely will help keep our personal accounts secure.

How ever, if it is all done via email. If someone manages to get the password to both someone rs account and email, they could essentially make it that the owner can't even log into his own account once recovered?

 

This is going to suck for anyone doing fire capes/kilns. At least this wil end phishing but people will just RAT someones computer and transfer their stuff through team viewer.

Ok so let us look at what JAG does for an account.

In order to have JAG set up you must have a register email account. Once you set up JAG you are setting 5 question and answers that will REPLACE your current recovery question. So JAG is 5 questions set that replace recoveries and unlike recoveries can not be changed. Then with JAG set you are supplying who can log into your account.

If an account buyer sets up JAG all they have to do is set the email address to their own, set up JAG which replaces any old recoveries, and have the ability to who can log into the account. And if they were to buy membership they would have the latest membership info.

Seems like to me the original owner is not left with much to recover an account with as it seems though a registered email is NEEDED to get back an account set with JAG.

EDIT: One more detail should be known about JAG. Once you supply the five questions, even if you disable JAG, when someone goes to enable it again it will be the same original questions. So those 5 questions are never going to change.

 

Time to activate this to be safer. Hopefully this will stop alot of hackers and phishers to stop trying.

I also highly doubt they will remove the ability for an original owner to recover their account somehow.

 

they still have the option of emailing jagex directly to try and reclaim the account, but I get the feeling with JAG registered on the account they're much less likely to be successful

Yes, you can still either send them an email or post on forums. I don't think they're going to ever go away from their policy to return the account to the original owner.

If, for example, you quit back in 2004 (and you've got all original information about the account), and someone got a hold of your account in 2005. He still has the account and activates JAG on it. I'm pretty sure that if the original owner did a recovery, that the JAG questions would be removed and he'd get the chance to set new ones.

Once again, just speculation until someone does a recovery and tells us

 

Definitely! I'm sure it will stop 90% of Phishing and hacking now... I think Jagex over the past year or so have really took a step up in terms of account security At least we know they're doing some things right, hehe.

 

Pretty good update RS-wise. Blackmarket wise I'm not sure.. I think that the original owner w/ original IP can always recover the account, but who knows. Might make account selling safer

 

Finally a good update. Was waiting something like this for a long time.

Problem is I feel that in-game scamming will dramatically increase. Be careful.

EXTREMELY helpful for the hacking situation. Phishing websites are pretty much null if you have JAG.

 

I've got some new information:

Apparently (and I haven't had time to test this myself) if you try to set JAG while you aren't the original owner, they'll lock the account. I've got no idea how they would check this, as you could technically activate JAG from any computer you want while still being the original owner.

Edit: if this is how it's going to be for all people who have bought an account ever, we're about to see a huge shitstorm.

Wake up guyz... hackers are stucked with this update. they will do anything for money.

But anyways i'm just speculating -_-'
