    Stolen iPhone help.

My dad had his iPhone stolen this evening and I need a few things answered.

    1) On the offchance that someone has managed to get into it or he forgot to lock it, what stuff are they able to get from the phone? We've changed the password for everything he's ever logged into on the iPhone, is there anything else we can do?

    2) Is there anyway anything that he's done on his iPad could be traceable from the iPhone? No experience with the whole iCloud thing so I don't know what could have happened, but he's logged into bank accounts etc. on his iPad so we're hoping none of the details are viewable on the stolen phone?

    3) Is there any way of tracking it down? He didn't have anything like FindMyiPhone installed and his network has disabled the SIM card, I'm guessing there's nothing we can do?

    4) What are the chances of someone getting into the phone with the data kept on it still intact, provided he remembered to lock it when he put it in his jacket? Is it an easy thing for a criminal to do?

Basically we're not too fussed about the phone itself because his work pays for it and it's replaceable. It's the data kept on it that is important.

Prompt replies would be appreciated so we can sort it out!

    Thanks! <3

    Did he have iCloud installed?

    Have a read: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2700

If not they can probably have access to everything without passwords :/ I'm not a hacker but presumably if the criminal knows someone who's handy with iPhones I should imagine getting past the front screens password is easy. I'm not entirely sure...

Such a shame if he didn't have iCloud though =(

He didn't unfortunately. Hadn't had the phone long. Mmm I thought there would probably be a way... We've changed the passwords on everything that he's ever logged into from the phone. Reckon it's safe? It was all changed from a computer completely unrelated to the stolen phone - it's never even been plugged into it.

If you've got serial number for it and the receipt if you report to apple that it's stolen im pretty sure they can disable the phone! Look into it. Hope all helps friend.

Do you mind me asking if it's a contracted phone? Or pay as you go?

My father lost his iPhone a few weeks ago, and within the six hours it took him to realise it was gone and to cancel his contract and lock the phone, the person who stole it racked up £2,000 worth of bills to a premium phone service.

    Just a heads up.

Doesn't matter if it has find my phone or not on it, iCloud has it installed automatically, you 'downloading' the actual app is just you acknowledging you have it. If you sign into iCloud you can locate the phone, assuming its contracted.

We should have that somewhere, I'll get him to give them a call. Thanks!

It's contracted. Luckily he realised it was gone and had called up his network and got the SIM and phone disabled within 10 minutes of it disappearing. Hopefully that will safeguard him against that... :'( Thank you!

Oh right, that's handy. I just logged into it now. I guess it's been turned off because I can't find it on the map but I've asked for it to be wiped when it's next turned on. Thanks very much!

If the person who stole it is retarded, he'll use it inside the US and be caught in no time.
If he's not, then it's probably being shipped off to China right now.

Well, I think ICloud had a feature of security and to trace it, albeit i see you did not have that, i presume there is nothing you can do, sorry about your dads loss.

Yes they can unlock it if they really want to and pull off data such as emails, phone numbers, text messages and so on. They can't get emails if he was using Microsoft Exchange for example though if the emails are only stored on the server.

That's why iCloud has a feature to clear everything off your iPhone from a computer.

I take it he didn't have that installed or he'd know what to do right?

iCloud default already has it enabled on the website, it's just a simple push and everything is removed ^_^

    Stolen iPhone help.

do you have the IMEI number of your iPhone? if so, go to the police and say your iPhone got stoled, as far as i know, every time when an iphone goes online it will check the imei number with iTunes, maybe this could be your /your dad's change to get it back

but i would definitly go to the police and fill a charge

I found my friends iPhone like this:

Get the phones serial number. Sounds hard but you can find it if you have ever synced it with iTunes (99% chance he has) There is a file that shows up with all the serial numbers and you will find your dads. You will have to google this method as I can't explain it. Call up Apple and tell them the issue and the Serial. If they do nothing request speaking to their manager. Eventually they will either trace it or replace it! Good luck

We never managed to get it back unfortunately. The bar that my dad was in when the phone was stolen apparently has a really bad reputation for stuff getting nicked so whoever did it must have known exactly how to avoid being caught. The police went round there and found nothing - the CCTV was conveniently 'not turned on' that night (you'd think that Friday night in a central London bar would be the most obvious time to turn it on...). Luckily he managed to claim for a new one on our household contents insurance and had all his data backed up so he didn't loose out in the end. My advice to everyone would be don't leave you're stuff within other peoples reach, even if you're watching it. My dads phone was on the table right in front of him and he didn't notice anyone take it (apparently the only person who came close enough was the waitress). Thanks for all your help guys, it made it a lot easier to sort the whole mess out!
