JAG - Jagex Account Guardian live!

So it seems Jagex Account guardian is up, and live!
I doubt it will affect account sales as it's an option...

It seems they send you an E-mail which you have to verify to activate this new 'system'

Seems as though you have to enter security questions much like recoveries.

There are 5 questions in total!

It won't change a thing for account selling.

Sure, you may want the seller to remove JAG, but that's about it.

The original owner will still be able to recover his account, whether you activated JAG on it or not.

 

I'm not so sure it will be as easy for Original owners to recover their accounts any more. For now Jagex will have patience and the time to look into these claims in detail. But soon when JAG has been out for maybe 6 month I doubt Jagex will have time for people who cant be bothered to activate JAG on their accounts as It's a really simple process.

I think if players don't have JAG on their accounts in the next year then account recovery claims of 'hacking' won't really get looked at by Jagex as JAG sort of stops this... IDK just my opinion and idea. I was hoping that JAG wouldn't harm account sales at all and it hasn't.

However, I do think this has made the transaction safer for the buyer. Which is fantastic.

 

i logged in with my f2p skiller, i also got the message that i'm not having it activated

Thanks for posting this for us, Ashaxx. Doesn't seem too bad, won't affect account sales in any way really, perhaps even give a better chance to buyers to reclaim a recovered account back that they purchased.

This is definetly going to effect account sales. Accounts without JAG will be almost safe to buy and accounts with JAG activated are going to be useless.

I agree with what you're saying. But nobody would buy an account with all recoveries and an E-mail set, so it's still the same principle I guess
People who try to sell an account with JAG on are just stupid if they try to...

 

I disagree. Jagex' policy has ALWAYS been to return the account to the original owner. Even if you bought the account several years ago and you posted in their thread asking for a recovery, then they'd still return it to the original owner.

Anyway, I haven't tested it yet, so I can't be sure either. This definitely means the end for phishing/RATs/hacking though. Pretty good update.

JAG can be removed from accounts anyway, but yea, accounts with JAG activated will be impossible to sell now.

 

I guess it's just another form of protection. I don't buy/sell accounts so I think this is usefull.

Is it just me or could this JAG actually be really beneficial to prevent scammers? I'm not fully sure how it will work, but if the seller of an account does not activate JAG then new owner would be able to. Wouldn't this mean that the seller would not be able to recover the account?

I think it could actually be beneficial to prevent sellers from scammers!


EDIT: Reading the FAQ on the site you are able to disable JAG once it has been enabled. That reassures me with some policy changes to this site account sales should be able to go much smoother now.
