Proteins which actually form both... That's what I read somewhere lol... So to answer your question: neither.

    The Chicken or the Egg?

Everyone who posted above is wrong, it was the chicken.

Scientists found that a protein found only in a chicken's ovaries was vital for the formation of the egg. In other words, the egg can therefore only exist if it has been created inside a chicken.

    The Chicken or the Egg?

Can a chicken egg hatch/survive on its own?

    The Chicken or the Egg?

I'm pretty sure it has to be kept in a warm and safe place, I don't think it'd survive just by itself somewhere.

    The Chicken or the Egg?

    This thread is stupid.

Evolutionarily it would have to be the egg because a chicken did not lay the first chicken egg.

    The Chicken or the Egg?

But how did the egg crack itself, they need the chicken's ass for warmth. Therefore, the chicken came first.

    The Chicken or the Egg?

You don't get it. Due to mutations in the formation of the egg itself some sort of pre-chicken laid the egg and hatched it. It then became the chicken we know now. It's basic evolution. Then assuming that some sort of egg laying animal usually has more than one offspring at a time it would create a small chicken population that would interbreed. The chances that it would happen are near nil but so was the formation of a life sustaining planet. So it happens.

    The Chicken or the Egg?

There had to have been some sort of chicken predecessors, prior to the egg.

So basically what you're saying is "out of nowhere, human!" to give another example.

Mutations take place at conception, so the egg was first.

    The Chicken or the Egg?

Yes, but even if we've only found that protein in modern day chickens, it doesn't mean that it couldn't have been present in any chicken ancestors. In essence, the article you gave still doesn't deny the evolutionary theory that the egg came first. It's very simple - the "chicken-like" animal that laid the first, actual chicken egg (extinct to this day) may have had that ovarian protein as well.

Then there is the premise that evolution is true...

If you assume creationism, then it's simple.
God created the animals. Thus, chicken. =D
