How to make guild wars 2 section work

Nick replied to the other thread and recommended that a new thread be made for this portion of the suggestion.

The guild wars 2 section has a boat load of potential, but only if we do it the right way. I know that no money is going to be put into advertising by Sythe, but that doesn't mean we can't make it work. Here is what I suggested from the other thread:

To add on to the discussion section a bit more:

A lot of the people who are going to sell Guild Wars 2 items on sythe are going to be looking for a GW2 centric forum. We don't necessarily have to offer this, but if we give them a place to discuss and chat about guild wars 2 as well it is much more likely that they are going to stick around and use Sythe regularly for GW2 purposes.

I personally do not play GW2, but I did notice that the section was just created, which definitely makes me happy. I believe the Guild Wars 2 section will grow like the Diablo 3 section grew, and that was quite efficient.

I do have a couple friends who play Guild Wars 2 quite often, and were looking to buy some accounts, so possibly a few referrals from me there.

As for money for advertising, I may be able to come up with a small portion, say $40 or so. I would be willing to pay for the design of a short ten second video advertisement of the Guild Wars section on Sythe, or even advertising Sythe.org itself, and pay for it's addition to other MMO video sites that post not just "Let's Play" 's, but also other types of videos. Hell, I know people with glitch/PKing video based Youtube accounts that I could pay cheaply for an addition to every one of their videos, maybe even a dedicated section on their page if the price is right.

They're all great ideas to give the forum a kickstart. The first and second I believe should be implemented ASAP.

as prob the most knowledabe gw2 player on sythe, a forum would deff be the go to, currently areanet does not have a official GW2 working forum, theirs is closed, see my post in the news section about the market regarding that.

i will be advertising sythe.org in my twitch streams in the game, link is in my sig, so if people want to pass that around to non-sythe users or sythe users alike be my guest.

when googling guild wars forum some pop up, we should try to make effort to have sythe.org show up somewhere on that list.

Agree'd I think this would be an awesome idea. Especially if we have dedicated players and maybe started a sythe clan to make youtube videos?

I agree that we should invest some time and money in the section and advertising, but the question is, who will be willing to do it?

I think the YouTube suggestion is really messy. There is no guarantee those advertisements would bring in any significant activity. I know "there's no harm in trying" will come up, but there could be potential harm. We're dealing with people we don't know; scams can occur, they can not do what they're supposed to do, etc. And, it's not like we can do anything if it does happen. I'm not really sure those channels would even bring in that much activity, though, and the really big channels probably wouldn't even take us into consideration considering how much they make already. I think we should stick to other forms of advertisement, if YouTube is still being considered, maybe we can try another method.

Think about it, people who are watching youtube videos are consciously paying attention to what the person is saying/doing. If the person is talking about sythe.org they are going to be listening and actually thinking about what he is saying. Something like that is infinitely more effective then just a banner on a website, because people just completely tune those out. Think about it, when you see a banner or another form of traditional advertising, do you consciously read and think about what it's saying? Or do you disregard it as simply another ad. My bet is on the second one.

Also I doubt anyone would have to worry about scams, if the youtuber does not provide the advertisement the buyer can simply chargeback his money.

Again, Sythe isn't going to pay for any of this. It'd be up to users who want to donate to the cause to do. So perhaps you don't feel that it's safe for you, but that shouldn't deter other users from wanting to be involved.

the hardest part about it would be getting a well veiwed youtube channel to promote on.

i've been trying to promote sythe.org on my twitch, but it's not popular, and only sythe people are veiwing it to begin with.

Even if it is more efficient, how many people do you think is really going to say "Oh, Sythe.org seems like a cool place to check out, even though I just came here for a Guild Wars tutorial, guide, etc." I wouldn't go to the website that easily if someone were to say something about a runescape-related website, and even if some people do come, do you think it'd be that much of an activity increase? Also, you said that you wanted the YouTube user to speak of Sythe.org while he's talking about it in the video, what if the video is long, and/or if some people don't reach that far into the video. There isn't that much views, so the odds of more people seeing the whole video is less.

This seems like so much effort for something that would probably not be as effective as you'd think. The only way I think this can actually work, meaning getting noticeable activity, would be getting a high profile YouTuber to advertise us, but that's out of the question.

I'm not trying to "deter" anyone, I just think this isn't that much a great idea, and how much donations you're going to get is questionable. Sorry.

You wouldn't go to the website if someone told you about it, but you would if you saw a generic banner on someone's website? If you know of more effective ways to advertise please suggest it, but that is what I think would be the most effective.

I would also like to note that this is not a runescape website, it is a virtual market website, and unless we want to be known as a runescape site, and die with runescape, then we really need to start expanding on other things such as guild wars 2.

I never said that? I just said I wouldn't go that easily if someone just talked about it, and that goes for banner ads, as well. I just feel like unless we got proper advertising (I'm not sure on what kind), we won't get that much of an activity increase.

I never said it was just a runescape website, but it is our main market. I'm not trying to discourage expandment, I just don't feel this YouTube idea will work that well. Now, without proper advertising, I think we'll have to go with some other ideas.

What exactly do you consider "proper advertising"?

That's why I said "(I'm not sure on what kind)." But, something with actual advertisement money, and is Sythe endorsed. So, paying random YouTubers and using an autotyper on runescape promoting Sythe isn't classified as "proper advertisement" in my view.

If we have a few members collaborate and come up with a decent way to formulate cookie cutter PvP builds and post them as guides I bet we would get a decent amount of traffic.

The game is only about a week old, and for those at the lower levels not completely understanding their classes have no where to go at the moment besides some long 20 minute Youtube videos on information on builds for their class.

It's a hit or miss thing though, I know there are forums dedicated to GW2, so if we don't hop on it now, we'll miss the opportunity, if we haven't already.
