Hidden Star Wars Easter Egg in Windows

I found this earlier on Youtube and thought it was kind of cool. I had never heard of this before so I thought I would share it here in case any of you guys have no idea it exists either.

    For Windows 7/XP users

The application that you need to use called 'Telnet' is apparently disabled on these systems, and so you have to enable it before you can watch the Star Wars movie.

    To enable Telnet:

    1) Click 'Start'.

    2) Open Control Panel.

    3) Click Programs.

    4) Click 'Turn Windows features on or off'.

    5) Search for Telnet client and check it.

    6) Now wait for a minute or two for it to finish the enabling process.

For everybody else/Windows 7 users after you have enabled Telnet:

    1) Click Start

    2) Click Run

    3) Type 'telnet' into the box

    4) When the box pops up, type the letter 'o' and press enter

    5) On the second line beside the < to >, enter 'towel.blinkenlights.nl' (without the ' on either side). Press enter

    6) Grab some popcorn and enjoy your Star Wars movie!

Anybody know any other Windows tricks or easter eggs? There are lots of cool ones on Youtube I found.

I am not a computer techy, but the video I found it in said that you can perform this on any Windows computer. That is what I meant but perhaps that description is not accurate.

The point is that I think this is neat and thought maybe some other people would get some enjoyment out of it as well.

I was just reading more about it, and apparently the last frame was completed in October 1999 (the film is incomplete) and so perhaps it will be never be finished. Pretty neat however :)

I saw something like this once, for Mac. It opened in terminal and played a text-art creation of the first few scenes of the New Hope.. was pretty awesome and ran for roughly 5 minutes.

This isn't in windows sadly, you are receiving data from the blinkenlights telnet. All OS have built in Telnet clients. Telnet servers are essentially remote command prompts and that one has that as the connect message for anonymous users.

I thought so. It didn't really seem related to Windows.

I don't know anymore Windows Easter eggs. If you have an android tablet, you can:

    • Go into Settings
    • Go into the About Device section
    • Keep tapping the android firmware version section
    • Hold down on the screen
    • Enjoy :p

damn, whoever made that must have spent forever on it. having to make all of that in ascii art or w/e it's called, that calls for a ton of time invested.
