I don't think it anything major, 100 members out of the 200million accounts isn't exactly a large proportion. I think unless RWT'ers go around boasting/making youtube vids they'll be fine.

Well, the proportion of the number of players is small, but think about it this way. In the US, the top 1% control 42% of the country's wealth as of around 2007. I'd think it's fair to say that there is something similar in Runescape. The massively rich only get richer, and the plethora of poor noobs never ends. I'd say that the top 1% richest RS players control a very large amount of RS's wealth. You attack some of the richest who provide a very large portion of the RWTing market, and while you may not be banning a large percent of the RS userbase, you are banning a largely influential section of the RWTing ring leaders. Aim for the largest suppliers first, and it will only get easier from there, as the flow of GP lowers and it becomes more difficult to find mass suppliers of bulk gold, and should Jagex continue to ban the next in line, it's only siphoning the supplier more and more with the least amount of bans and work from Jagex. Tbh, seems like a smart strategy in my mind.

Actually if you are a old rs player, you know fishy. he just plays the game because he enjoys it. I know several players that had 100s of party hats when crackers came out that just quit lost them staking ect. Fishy bossed he just banked it and enjoyed the game. did a couple stakes.

So when I see this bank I really am not suprised nor do I for 1 moment think that one of the oldest players in rs rwts lol.

Jagex would never mass ban rwters and botters again. Look at the loss they will make with all the lost memberships...

This stokenut makes no sense at all.

I hate RWT, it ruined the game, but if I don't do it someone else is gonna do it. And I would rather have the money than some Asian farmer company.

I don't understand how people can be so mad at him. If I were in his position to make $50,000 by just playing runescape, I'm going to do it, and I'm sure most of you would too.

Oh my friend, how terribly mistaken you are. Let me bring up a past few events for those of you who don't know.

I wasn't around for the mass ban that came from AR's detectable packet-sending macro, but I everywhere I read it was a mass number of accounts banned compared to total accounts.

Later on, still during the RSC era, a new wave of bots hit the scene, STS, SBot, RSD, and quite a few other low-time bots. All very detectable compared to our advancements now days, but because of how easy they were to create and use they were abused, to say the least. I was around for this ban, I took some screenshots (on my old computer) of a huge amount of people standing still in small areas around Runescape; usually around mining & fishing areas. They remained motionless for a few days before Jagex announced banning these accounts.

Again, these banned accounts made up a huge percentage of all accounts. Thought, by legit players, to have shot themselves in the foot from the profit loss of banning the accounts, Jagex had no concern, and thus later on the release of Runescape 2 beta. Drawing in more and more players, it's like the mass bans never happened and they were, once again, drawing in lots of profit.

(Still through this whole time, SCAR and the SRL team ran in the shadows, but this is besides the point. ;))

Eventually Aryan (or was KYAB first?) was born, marking the true beginning of the RS2 botting scene. (I'm not sure if this was the last of the packet bots or simply ran via a heavily modified client, need to ask Benland :p) Again, this bot spread like a fire through it's easy-to-use API and at that time Jagex did not obfuscate their client, making things very simple. The biggest ban so far resulted from Aryan-users, a severe hit in the user-base of Runescape. This was the reason we now have obfuscated clients. But even after the huge loss, the RS population grew yet again, as expected.

Aryan was the last real mass ban so far, but who know's what's to come. As you can see, there's always a period where bots flood Runescape and a mass ban follows, yet every single time the population not only returns to normal, but exceeds the previous user-base.

It's obvious the people who say "Yeah, a mass ban is going to kill Runescape, they'll lose so much money" actually only want that to happen, they're the ones who, more than likely, believe they'll be one of the accounts banned. Out of spite, they want Jagex to lose profit from a mass ban, but as history shows, that won't stop them. ;)

It's true. I have a few Player Mod friends, and I was chit chattin' with one after I got 99 defence, and we were discussing the RWTing and dicing mass bans. When I told him how much Stokenut had made IRL, we talked more about how that's like a job blah blah blah, and he eventually said that if he had no morals he would RWT if he could make that much money. That's coming from a Player mod. I'm also pretty sure if I showed exactly what was said and who said it to a J Mod, he'd lose his crown (but I'm not that mean :p and I like this guy).

Honestly, think about it. If someone walked up to you one day and gave you a little contract that said, if you sign this right here, you will be able to make tens of thousands of dollars doing no work besides selling Runescape gold, you wouldn't sign it and milk it for all it's worth

    ------------------

Also, XWX knows exactly what he's talking about. He's right

I found this slightly alarming. This was a good move for the game, but it is a very clear reminder that nobody is invincible and that Jagex does, and will, ban people who break their rules. I think people in the cheating community (myself included), get a little overconfident sometimes and come to falsely believe that Jagex "doesn't care anymore" or that "Jagex won't do anything." But this is entirely false, and when people get sloppy & lazy about their illegal in-game activities, they get punished for it.

I do find it surprising that it took them this long to 'figure out' that Win All Day, Stoke, and the Smokin Mils people they banned were all involved in RWT'ing. I think it is quite hilarious that Fishy put out a 250B bank video the same day that all those guys got banned too, obviously trying to save his own ass

It is only fair if the rest of the members who are openly involved in RWT and like to flaunt their wealth are banned too. Players such as Sparc Mac and Fishy, for example.

    EDIT:

I want to elaborate a little bit on what MrLuckyDraw said as well. I was absolutely shocked when I find to Stokenut's Youtube channel and found his 'apology/explanation' video, and the sheer volume of hate and disgust displayed in the comments. Not only were people extremely angry with him for legitimate reasons - like loyal and dedicated fans who felt betrayed and ashamed that their idol was permanently banned for something scandalous like RWT, especially after repeated denials of being involved in it - but it looked to me like many people were just jumping on the hateful bandwagon and posting disgusting things without really thinking about what they were doing. I saw countless comments wishing death or cancer upon Stoke, threats against him and his family, people telling him to kill himself, etc.

So many hateful and hurtful comments generated over the fact that he did what 95% of the people posting would have ALSO done if they were in his shoes. What sickened me the most though, was clicking through some of the names and discovering that many of the people posting pure hate directed at Stokenut, were the same people who had also posted on Fishy's channel in order to enter his bils giveaway that he announced in the bank video he put out to save his ass. The hypocrisy is unbelievable.

You're bringing up very old events and actions by owners "The Gowers" who actually gave a shit about Runescape. The new owners of Jagex are American investors who put profits first and don't care about the long term. They will not let Jagex cut 75% of it's memberships again. I'm sure the ceo of jagex took some real shit by the profit lose after the last bot nuke. Jagex was so out of touch they didn't even realize how bad the botting had become. There will be no bot nuke. it's just not going to happen. Hear no evil, See no evil, Speak no evil. People still play and pay regardless of the bots.

Umm... Why the hell did my original post get deleted and replaced with YoHoJos?

I had more pictures, and the title talks about RWTers AND botters, not just RWTers, which the original post now is.

    Can a mod fix this?

As for Stokenut, I don't care he did RWTing. Good for him, however what pisses me off is that he kept this whole lie going on for nearly a year to two years that he still enjoyed the game and actually played when it was apparent he didn't when the gambling videos rolled in.

He used to make good content, then it went to shit. If he wanted to RWT he should have just said fuck it to his Youtube ways and RWT. Not lie to his fans like that :s.

As for the bans, honestly the bots I think is a good thing they are going to ban some bots. I don't bot personally "well at least on my main", and really it does hurt the game...just look at things like Red Chins. Do I think they actually are going to ban the bots? No I don't think they will. RWTing wise, does have me a little scared but I don't think at least I am in big danger. I only do a small cheap services, not for real money.
