I had them removed, along with some other teeth. Every experience was about the same. Whenever it happened to me they drugged the hell out of me with some kind of gas. It feels like your in a crazy dream that you can see what's going on and control it.. kind of.

Afterwards your mouth is all numb so you really don't feel anything. The only time I felt pain was whenever I wasn't careful and tried chewing right on the spot where a tooth use to be.

    __

It's not that bad, really. Don't worry too much.

Ask to see the xray. My dentist showed me the xray and we concluded we could wait a year before deciding. A year later, she said I dodnt need them out.

They drug the crap outa you so you should be fine. Even after the surgery and the numbness went away the worse thing was eating for about the next three/four meals.

As long as you follow the instructions and try to avoid getting a dry socket you should be fine

Actually it depends on your insurance for the drugs and what not. My dad doesn't pay much for a dental plan since no one in the family has teeth issues. The gas was an extra $190 or something and the "knockout" medicine was pushing $300. I decided to stay awake and aware through the whole time. I highly suggest you get one of the two options i stated above. It didn't hurt but you can feel when they slice your gums, when they drill the tooth, and when they take this instrument and start grabbing them fragments out. They needed to stop because i started to "panic" which wasn't because i was scared, it was the way my body was reacting to all of it. And my heart heart going up (which you cant really help when you see a drill going into your mouth). When you eat don't chew, just swallow little bits of food.

I never had wisdom teeth. From what I've seen, your face will be swollen up pretty bad for about a week.

I had em taken out in October last year. I showed up for the surgery in the morning, went over the procedure with the doc for about 10 minutes, they took me into a room and lied me down on the reclining chair. Once the nurse gave me the anesthetic, the next thing I knew I was waking up. I didn't feel a thing, and was only out for about 45 mins. Of course my face was numb/swollen after it was over, but they gave me this headband/ice pack thing to help wear it down (that, and some meds).
I was lucky to have been able to spend a three day weekend recovering from the surgery (it would have sucked to have to go to school while my face was swollen and aching), so if you can, try and schedule a date for the surgery on a three day weekend/vacation week.
Altogether it wasn't that bad. I just took it easy during the recovery; watched movies, ate soup and pudding. Plus, the pain killers they gave me where pretty effective, so those helped a lot whenever the pain began to uncomfortable.

I got mine out when I was 15, which is extremely early for most people (usually they don't come until your early 20's or just before).

Basically I had an extremely swollen face for a week, and my cheeks were bright purple and yellow from the bruising (not everybody gets this side effect). My mom forced me to go back to school like 2 days after and it totally sucked. Also, they gave me codeine for the pain and I had a severe allergic reaction and ended up hospitalized. Luckily it was just a one time thing otherwise I would be allergic to many types of opiates, but it still made the already uncomfortable experience even shittier.

I've had many friends of mine get their's taken out and it is usually not that bad man. Just enjoy lying on the couch for a few days watching movies and sipping broth and soup ;)

I got mine out when I was 15, too. They can either give you the shots (which I got) to numb the pain, or they can knock you out. They give you some antibiotics and some pain killers. The first few days suck, but the first day sucks the most. As far as pain goes, it's not bad. I only needed to take a couple of painkillers the first day and then I was fine. It's really just an uncomfortable experience.

A tip: Get it done on a Friday. That way (if you have school or work) you can miss Friday and then have the weekend to get better. After three days you should be fine.

Also, you need to clean out the holes where your teeth used to be. It's not hard, really. After a couple of months the holes close up and you're good to go.

    Getting mine out soon (16).
Can't wait for all the great drugs I'll get afterwards too ^_^
Protip: Don't get it done right before something you have to do cause you'll be useless for 3-4 days and I know some people that had theirs out and were forced to come to school 1-2 days after the procedure.

That's good news about your teeth. If you do need to have that one removed, the whole procedure is extremely easy and I wouldn't worry.

Recovery varies depending on the person (or in some cases the doctor), but generally you'll hear that it's a breeze.

I was in such minimal pain that I never even needed a painkiller, then there were a few days of minor swelling. I thought the worst part of recovery was the bleeding, your gums will likely ooze for a few days and it's fairly unpleasant. That was it though, just a small inconvenience.

I had 4 teeth taken out from the back, not my wisdom teeth but pretty much the same thing. I had one from each side out and they gave me some gas that didn't fully put me to sleep but it made me pretty much pass out and they just ripped them out haha and I woke up with a mouth full of cotton wool. It was ok and didn't hurt much just couldn't eat solid foods at the side that well in case I made the wounds bleed.

i had 2 removed on top and it didn't hurt as much. i kept the two wisdom teeth which i kept for child hood memories. the other two that were taken out, not sure what happened to them but i forgot to ask if i could keep it :(

the last two were done by a african american doctor who thought that man should fear no pain. well he gave me a little numbing so i couldn't feel it but when he digged through to remove it, it hurt as well and when i asked for more, he barely gave me anything.

I had my top back wisdom teeth taken out. It wasn't a problem, in and out. My bottom wisdom teeth need to be surgically removed. So that probably won't be fun.
