A guide to not being an idiot on runescape/sythe

Decided to write out some of my thoughts/experiences to try and help stop the general idiocy that you see daily on sythe/runescape.
I guess the wall of text has isolated a large part of the target audience already, but meh.

runescape related-
Money doubling, seriously? If something sounds too good to be true it is, do you think these people are charities? If someone has people spamming things like "omg legit" it means they are his friends, or they are newbs who got their 10k doubled, as soon as you put up your 1m+ it is getting stolen almost for sure.

Dicing/flower gaming playing
-Before you start with the normal enraged, OMG HOSTS ARE LEGIT SHUT UP, let me tell you why they are legit. It is because you are basically a cash cow, why kill the cow off? The odds are against you, it is even worse than a real life casino, 60:40 for example is laughable odds which are just going to end up with you screwed over, why do you think people pay so much to host, they ALWAYS win in the end. The same people telling me that they play just for fun/ it is easier than staking because they are not maxed are the same people that always lose money overall, sure they might get up to 100m or even 1bil, but it all comes tumbling down in the end. My favourite one is people saying keep doubling your bet, sure that might work 10 times, or even 20, but you will just get cleaned in the end and the hosts keep on laughing (notice rich hosts never get cleaned like you do, isn't that funny?).
- A much much MUCH MUCH better alternative if you insist on throwing your money away gambling, is to go boxing, much better odds and you don't have to pay any hosting fees or the like for things like flower poker(its 50:50 odds guys! how is that a scam, I find this hilarious that people don't understand its more like 45:45 for both of you longterm as you do not win all your bet back if say you win then lose one, the host just pockets it). Don't have a maxed account to stake with? Then bot one, it isn't hard, or just use one of the many free staking services on sythe, they are always a better option than dicing is.

Dice/flower game hosting!
-Well after my rant above doesn't being a host sound great! You could be the next Win All Day and get a 400b bank overnight from noobs dicing with you.
Sorry you are almost 2 years too late, you have missed the boat entirely. The only way you will get into a dicing clan now is by joining the bottom of a giant pyramid scheme, such as dragon dyce or WAD where you pay a massive fee to join which will take you a long time to earn back, and also see yourself pressured into doing massive bets with the owners of the clan/be restricted in how much you can host to random people (owners will want the biggest stakes themselves).
Another alternative is to set up your own dice clan, a good example of how bad an idea this is is the recent dice thing going around on sythe (naming no names but we all know who I am referring to). This looks great, one the biggest gold sellers/buyers supporting it and you can become a host for a small fee! Woot! you can now spend all day trying to get 10k bets in a random world, you are unknown and why would anyone dice with you rather than say at dragon dyce, known to be much more trusted than a new clan? You will struggle to get back your 50m or whatever hosting fee and eventually just give up as it dies. No one wins here, as even the people top up in the clan are paying advertisers to get their clan started with the money the people are paying to become ranked, but the clan never will because the market is already saturated with these huge pyramid schemes.


Gold farming
-This seems a good idea right, easy cash from botting.
Now think again, what is a good script to use, how about green dragons or the herb garden one. Lets use the example of powerbot as the botting site you use as it is the most easily accessible. Powerbot lets you run 2 accounts at a time, or more if you pay 8$ a month for VIP.
-You start making a nice 600k per hour from 2 accounts, seems nice and you get your shiny whip/bandos/whatever fairly quickly.
How much did the power for running your computer 24/7 cost do you think, how much for the computer?
Assume with that you can make 12mil a day, with current GP prices that is around 3.6$ a day. Well that sucks.
Why do you think so many gold farmers are Chinese, they can run MASSIVE bot farms with hundreds of low cost machines/power with very low wage costs to pay someone to monitor the bots. It is -not- the way to make money yourself by directly competing with these people, they are professionals you are just some guy using some software he got for free.

Selling toy horse 1k saying for full rune
-My god why does this still work, these people act like noobs hoping you feel sorry for them, just tell them to fuck off.

Getting lured
-Can't understand why I need to put this but never ever take high value items into dangerous areas. If someone wants you to go into clan wars for some reason to give you free items or for a fun fight, it the first case tell them they are an idiot for thinking something so childish would fool you, in the second case DON'T TAKE A FUCKING PHAT, PHATS HAVE 0 STATS WHY WOULD HE WANT YOU TO BRING IT, common sense is your best friend here just read the rules and look out for items lost on death.
As for the lures like following people into the wildy, or getting group teled, you just deserve it for being an idiot, what else can I say.


How to avoid retarded duel arena stakes that you will surely lose.
-This is another common way in which the more mentally lacking members of the wonderful runescape community are parted with their gps.
There is a level 30 offering to stake you, wooooooooo look how low leveled he is free cash!?!?! Now, stop to think about this, why is he offering to stake you, if he really was a legitimate new player how would he have the cash to do a big stake. Again if it is too good to be true, it defiantly is, there are 2 varieties to this trick, the first is summoning tanks who can have rune minos or iron titans at level 30-60, these guys generally know what they are doing and will rape you if you don't bring a familiar, and will probably rape you if you do, summoning boxing is a highly skilled staking style involving walking the familiars around the arena, these guys do it all day every day and will completely own you at it (even if say you have a steel titan and are maxed, vs a level 50 with an iron titan, you will probably still lose). The next derp woo low level stake is them wanting food on but you have to show your inventory to show you have no food, easy huh, you just kill them in a few hits before they can eat, depending on the level they might use recoil rings, or more commonly they will use corrupt morrigan axes and just get a hit in every now and then while eating rocktails as you hopelessly max 288s with a rapier on their 35+10+5 lifepoints(rocktails and mushroom lp boots) and eventually lose, you will always lose in this situation even if somehow you maxed with every hit.
The summoning staking thing goes for all summoning stakes, never do a summoning on stake, you might think "oh it can't be that hard, smash him titan", but you will end up hopelessly running around the arena as your titan fails to get a single hit in .

-And I am amazed at having to say this, but remember whips/rapiers cannot hit people who have you frozen from ice/bolas's/zgs specs, never enter a movement on duel and bring only melee... How did you think this duel would end, you heroically whipping aside ice barrages to pwn them?

-Another one of my favourite "what the fuck how do idiots fall for this" is the scam items scam. Typically they will say things like staking dragon full helm only 12m, then put up a dragon full helm kit, and hope people are brain dead enough to not be able to tell the difference between a fairly obvious spiky helmet and its armour kit. Another one is the ancient ceremonial mask staking at around 110m while it being worth 110k, seriously can you not read?
Which leads me on nicely to the next bit, do you have problems reading numbers, does that 10m really look like 100m to you? Just take a few seconds to actually look at what they are putting up rather than flail hopelessly on the keyboard and stake away your bank for a useless armour kit worth 600k.

Getting keylogged
Every day you read on the forums sob stories of people who got hacked, "0mg a11 mah st0ff 1s g0n3 yyyyy Fag3X u n0 halp". There are several equally retarded ways you can get keyloggers.
-MAGIC DDOS SUPER HACKING ITEM CHANGING UBER TOOL THAT YOU CAN HACK PEOPLE WITH, DOWNLOAD NOW FOR FREE- I mean what did you expect, you deserve everything coming to you. Changing all your items into partyhats, wow that seems useful, I wonder why those idiots on forums sell them for so much real life money, time to get uber rich irl with this neat hack I found, gee what luck. Or the equally insightful, wow I wondered how people ddosed and hacked, now I can be a 1337 hacker too with this super cool tool that these kind caring people have let me use, so I can share in their activities with them, I am sure we will be best friends.
-"Hey add my skype, got a cool picture to send you!" The best way that has worked for me to avoid such keyloggers is a healthy cynical hatred for everyone on runescape, try it and you will avoid this fairly easily.
-"This page has unsecured content, load it anyway"- You really are beyond help aren't you, Java has even warned you to be careful about what sites you accept Java on, and you go and accept it on a random link someone sent you offering phr33 stuff or the like, why would a forum page or a video need Java...
-"SUPER URGANT OFFICAL JAGEX WARNING REPLY NOW OR WE WILL RAPE ALL OF YOUR INTERNET"- You my friend deserve a special award for the lengths of retardation you have gone too to get hacked, to get these emails generally you have to navigate through the spam folder, ignore several warnings about this not being from who it says it is, and then click the link to somewhere like "www.r00000nscape****". But ok, ok you are worried about this evil black mark that will get you banned from real life with scary big words, and you had better reply and give all your account details away to a normally shoddy looking website straight away to confirm that this email was sent by accident, as surely anyone who did commit such horrible acts as you are accused of would at least have the decency to not lie about it to Jagex after receiving the email asking them if they want to be banned.
-"hey let me on your account I can give you bils"- such nice people exist in runescape surprisingly, and I encourage you to also take them up on their offer of a new Nigerian banking scheme so you can quickly make as much real life wealth as you surely are about to receive in runescape.



Sythe section

Not being able to read/being a gullible dumass - How to spot a sythe scam

please for the sake of everyone, just double check before trading with someone that for example the msn you are trading with is actually the same as the CURRENT msn that person is using. it really is not that hard to tell the difference between [email protected] and [email protected], if you took just a few seconds you could avoid a scam. Also always ask for a pm, it is rare and I do actually feel bad sometimes for people who get scammed by hacked msns, but by just asking for a pm you are sure to be fine. The most obvious way to tell a scammer/imposter is them refusing to pm you , if they say sythe is down, just ask for them to wait until its up, legitimate traders won't find doing this as they would want you to vouch for them anyway after.
As for new people, just make sure they go first or use a mm, if they don't want to, they are not worth your time. Insisting they will only use an OMM is another sign of a scammer, as these people know that no one really can be bothered to find/pay an OMM, and will assume that as these people were happy to use a mm that they are trustworthy.

Offsite vouches
Hey I'm an official mm/mod/Owner of powerbot/Bugabuse/soulsplit, you can totally trust me. In the 1st or 3rd case you might well be lead into thinking, hey these guys seem trusted and do a lot of trades offsite, might as well trust them. The problem with this is, why would they come to sythe were they will get much lower prices due to not being trusted, rather than stay with their site. The answer is simple, generally they are not, either their msn's have been hacked and the hacker is trying everyone possible, or it just a random guy who is sure you won't check if he really is. The fact is that offsite vouches are completely worthless, and tell you nothing about the person. In the middle case of the list of sites I put, Bugabuse(/insert various similar website) is a site dedicated to blackhat activities (hacking, scamming, ddosing, virus's etc) what the hell did you expect, you are dealing with someone who is basicly boasting at how good he is at scamming people.

Teamviewer
Teamviewer -can- be a very useful tool, but it also a very useful tool for scammers to deplete idiots of their gps. Try and understand how teamviewer works first, you are signing in and controlling their computer, if you log into your account and enter the pin on their computer, it is the same as letting that person log in themselves, they just kick you off the session and precede to trade all of your stuff to themselves, amazed at the technical incompetence of the people falling for this. Another more serious and easier to fall for scam using teamviewer is to just enter a teamviewer session with a scammer, and not have accept files off. Teamviewer automatically lets someone sharing a sessions with you transfer files, this obviously includes viruses/keyloggers, just turn your file sharing option off... (there are guides on it just look it up).

More to come when I can think of them/Have time to write out the common sythe mistakes/scams.(only have written out the runescape ones which most annoy me so far )

your title says runescape/sythe, you should include not going first to newcomers or buying accounts from newcomers and not expecting the acc to get recovered

Seems like common sense to me, but a good guide nonetheless. Should definitely help "idiots" not be idiots.

 

Do you really think "idiots" are going to read all of this, let alone listen to your advice? Especially on the dicing/hosting/gold farming. They'll just reply with "No! Dicing is good, I make moneh!" And the same with gold farming.

 

I see people that seem smart enough saying they support dicing, hoping this at least convinces them.
