Not sure if this has been suggested but a great idea if I do say so myself

I think users should be able to host their own contests here in our community for various prices like PayPal cash or RSGP gold. I can understand that a thread like this could get ugly pretty quick without the proper rules in place. So here is what I suggest.

    1. All contest requirements and rules must be submitted to a mod for approval BEFORE they can post their contest.
    2. Just like OMM, we have a select few that are trusted to hold contest winnings until the contest is over, to prevent any scammers from running off without paying out the winnings.
    3. No contests can involve leading off to other sites like Facebook for likes or Youtube for views.
    4. Users must have a set amount of vouches before they can host a contest involving a PayPal prize.

These are just a few I would suggest using, I'm sure there are plenty more we could think of to make it much safer

So what do you guys think?

It is a legitimate idea, but it needs a ton of organization and it would need a ton of people to help support it.

If you change #2 to highly trusted Mods (As any unranked member is still capable of scamming ;; Not saying all unranked isnt trusted; but We've lost a few "trusted" to Hacking or being a little greedy). I'd support it.

But as Sarune had stated, you'd need alot of organization. Perhaps even a new rank for the Mods like "Contest Holder" or W/e.

Good idea though. Going to need alot of support for this to fall through.

EDIT: before anyway boasts as why i didnt say OMMs aswell, most Mods are OMMs. I really havent seen many OMMs who are or was mods.

That's what I meant, "Like an OMM" we would need a whole new rank for Contest Holders. But I think that just having Mods do the holding would be better as well, even though most Mods would probably be the people getting those ranks anyways :p

Any "ranked" member is capable of scamming also. I would support this as it would be a pretty cool addition. However, it would take a bit of work.

I like it but it would take a lot of work to do, such as moving old competitions in to a archive or something. But if it was put it in place it would be pretty good.

We really wouldn't have to do that. Just have a mod close the thread once a contest has been completed with the winner being listed towards the top of the thread. Simple.

I support this idea, don't really see anything bad coming out of it besides fake contests, but that matter.

Think this is a great idea and will support it if there are any staff that will be able to handle it and put in the time that will be required for it to run smoothly.

People can already create their own contests for free. If you want to make one, just ask for an admin's approval, and then post it in the community general section.

It sounds like you have a contest idea you'd like to host, and if that's the case, don't be shy about making one. If you need any help setting it up or have any questions let me know.

This seems like a lot of work, to be honest. It causes unnecessary workload on the moderators who already deal with the more important issues. Also, what would the criteria be for someone who holds the money, and what would happen if they were to scam. I think sticking with our current way of hosting a contest would be better, just ask an Administrator, and then post in "Community General." It'd be essentially the same thing, but it just wouldn't have it's own section. But, I'm also pondering how much activity the section would have, as well, we don't get a lot of competitions, so I doubt it'd be that active.

If we had a section for just these kinds of competitions we would have a lot more people willing to host them, and since we don't have charity(begging) forums this would be a way for people to get things for free by competing without having to beg for it. Having a section with people hosting contests often is something that could easily bring in more members, which is what Sythe is always trying to achieve anyways.

This will add unneeded work for the mods. They're going to have to watch competitions closely to avoid scams and rip-offs. The current system is completely fine. PM and admin and get approval and then post in community general. Just like I told someone wanting a RuneScape clan section, adding a single section isn't going to bring an influx of members. We are a RuneScape black market. People don't come here looking for a contest section and I can promise if one were added that wouldn't be a main attraction on Sythe.

We have several forums that aren't "Main Attractions" on Sythe... Off Topic, Movies and Television, Music and even a SPAM folder. The point of the thread isn't to "Bring a main attraction" it's to give people a place to host contests, somewhere they don't have to worry about spam like "Why is Sythe not working" pushing their contest down to the bottom of the posts.

Adding a contest forum would in fact bring more players, because there isn't a single person here on Sythe right now that's going to turn down freebies if they have the chance to win them..

If you forgot to read what others have already talked about, there will be no way for a scammer to rip anyone off, the rules I listed clearly stated that the contest winnings would HAVE to be traded over to a trusted mod/admin before they could host their contest to avoid something like that.

Any other argument you would like to toss out there?

    Exactly this.

There's no need for a new section, though I like the idea so I will support.

You just proved my point. It creates unneeded work for mods. If you have mod hold the funds then they're going to have to be numerous volunteers to work the section. School is starting back up and I know that there is going to be a decrease in activity across the board so adding anymore to the work load isn't smart. Look at the RaS section - reports are starting to back up. They're more important things than giving free stuff away. It would be much smarter to just continue the system the way it is. If someone wants to host a contest then just follow the outline of the current system as it is easy and already in place.

Community general also isn't for threads like 'Why isn't Sythe working' that is what feedback and the help section is for. If there are threads like that then they need to be moved. If you look there are at most 5 to 10 constantly active threads in so if the contest is active then there would be no reason for it to get buried.

Not necessarily, we've added sections like "Mincraft," "LoL," and "Diablo III" because of the demand, and they didn't turn out as active as we thought it would be. I don't understand how competitions can bring in more members, the only way I can think of is when a member tells a friend, but that doesn't seem like an efficient way of getting new members to me. Regardless, even if it does bring in some members, this has more cons than pros. I think sticking with current method of hosting a competition would be better.

Users can already create there own competitions, the staff have no problem with it. When it comes to a member holding money (I.E. Bets, etc) the staff are a little hesitant, because it's a great opportunity to scam.

If someone wants to create their own competition with a prize they can just go for it. Making an official process is just a lot of work that moderators would need to work on.

And i really don't agree with a section for competitions, that's what the Spam forum and the community forums are for.
