Range Tank?

Hey guys, I'm coming to you for some ideas, opinions and tips. I've never had a range tank, or any pure with defense. I've got my eye on an account with 45 defense, 99 range, 52 prayer and 94 mage. How would those stats stack up in F2P and P2P wild, how would you suggest pk'ng, and what should I train next on the account?

 

well, most "range" tanks will have 99 range and 99 def. seeing you're not relying on any other stat for back-up other than mage which you need as much help that you can...

i've seen PLENTY 99 range 99 def 99 mage pures in F2P and P2P. i would get 95 pray too if you're going to be p2p..

What about something like 80/99/40 with 94 range, 52 prayer, and 99 mage?

 

like i said, if you're going to be P2P 95 prayer is AMAZING.. but f2p you can put at 52... either way but if you're going to be range tank there's no reason for other stats but range pray and mage .. but it's really good to have back-ups and not rely on mage and range.. here's what i would do... takes a lot of time..

99 hp
99/75 att
99 str
75 def
95 pray
99 rage
99 mage

with the new combat system coming out.. idk what is better anymore. but these are my opinions..

 

Rigour is good too. 45 defence sounds a bit too small to be honest, but you have to try it before getting more.

 

most range tanks have at least 75 defence

 

Okay, here is what I'm running...let me know how you think it'll do.

75 def, 99 range, 92 prayer, and 96 mage.

 

If you can't afford turm, try 74 prayer and go for augury, another good prayer

 

lol augury? you mean rigour right. yeah.. 74 prayer and dung for rigour is the best for range tanks if you cant afford turm. i have a account for sale if your looking to buy one. needs dung trained to get tokens for rigour though.

 

I recommend Rigour over curses for a range tank, yes you could soul split but most people will run and get pissed off your using it. Plus you will have a lot less range prayer bonus on curses.

Rigour is amazing with 20% range and 25% defence, and you'll be a lower combat level as its only like level 74 prayer i think, compared to SS which is 92.

 

If you are going to use melee any get turm but if not def use rigour

 

Did you even read the title/OP? The title clearly states "Range Tank" and in the OP never mentions he might use melee.

If you can't get to 99 def, atleast raise to 75, otherwise it wont end well.

 

Ok for one, dont listen to the people saying to get 95 prayer for turmoil. Thats wasted combat levels if you dont use melee

Get rigour which is 74 prayer I believe and i would go to 75 def to see if you like it and if not get 99 def

OT: If that 45 Defence is quested, I wouldn't level the Defence any higher.

However if it's not, or you simply want to start a Range tank account, then I'd level it to at least level 80 and then finally 99.

Also as mentioned by 2012 monstr, getting 74 Prayer for Rigour provides a greater advantage for PKing.

Unless you anticipate the new Turmoil for Range that's coming up in the new combat update, then aim for 95/99 Prayer.
