Knowing someone rich by their physical appearance

Anyone want to agree with me that an American who are generally fat or overweight came from families that are somewhat middle/top class families or rich status? Why I think this is because people who have more food on the table or more money spent typically have more money to spend on. Where as some people barely have enough money to cover bills and a small budget on food.

This is false and it pretty much stereotyping. While this used to be true back 300+ years ago it isn't anymore. Generally wealthy persons will be slimmer because of the ability to afford health foods, and everything that goes along with a 'healthy lifestyle' but also social stigma. Generally people with less money are larger because it is more expensive to buy fresh foods from supermarkets then it is to buy highly processed foods that have lots of unhealthy bits and pieces in it. Healthy/Fresh food costs a lot more per calorie than highly processed foods do. I can buy an apple, eat it, and get my hunger satiated but why do that when I can pay the same price for a candy bar that will make me feel fuller and give me a better feeling through additives and sugars. I am not a health freak of any kind, but that is the facts of the matter.

 

What nero said... I grew up pretty poor, and we got to eat ramen, and .33 cent burritos everyday for a few years = us being overweight.

Luckily it turned around for us later but, fat does not mean wealthy, by any means. Is Bill Gates fat? Was Steve Jobs? How about Brad Pitt?

 

Lower class/poor people are more likely to be fat, because, as Nero said, unhealthy food is cheaper.

Those people are also more likely to smoke/use drugs/be alcoholics though.

 

I'd say this is totally untrue, for the most part people who are financially better off tend to be healthier. They have money for better and healthier foods, gym memberships, better health care etc. Whereas those with less money tend to spend money on cheaper and unhealthier foods most of the time, such as fast food.

 

You don't know what you're talking about. Most mid-upper class American families usually belong to some type of swim or country club therefore giving them access to much more athletic programs such as lacrosse, tennis, and swimming than the poor. Most fat fucks that you see walking around come from lower class families because all the parents can afford for their kids is a number one at the local mcdonalds.

 

You can't determine a persons is weight due to there wealth. It depends on so many factors.

• Genes
• Exercise
• Foods
• Drinks

Just because some one has money to spend on junk food does not mean they do, Your argument is like saying a rich person is skinny because they can buy exercising equipment.

 

Small budget on food = McDonald's dollar menu every night...

McDonalds dollar menu every night = FAT.

This was how it was way back in 1800s early 1900s where being fat was for rich people to show off their wealth. I can walk through a trailer park near my house and see 300lb+ people on every street. There are fat people and fit people in lower, middle, and upper classes.

 

I think you can tell be how they carry themselves or how they act but not just on physical appearance.

And like I wear polo and lacoste and a little Calvin Klein because I'm well off... I can afford $100 shirts... clothing is huge in america you can easily tell

 

Maybe back in the pre-1900's.

Today, society tells us that to be the 'best' one must be skinny and fit.
Part of obtaining that image is eating right.

Poor people lack the money, and/or knowledge, of doing so and the result is a McDonald's on every street corner and heart-problems.. or in extreme cases, anorexia and bloated bellies.

Only way to judge someone's wealth based on physical appearance is by the clothes & jewelry that they wear... and even then, there are people buying Nike shoes and Gucci purses that really shouldn't be.

 

Pretty much this. I knew many kids growing up who were dirt poor and were morbidly obese.
