Make "Reserving" threads against the rules.

It was recently brought to my attention that it isnt against the rules to "reserve" threads..
This was recently posted under the provocative title "Guide: How to hide your bot COMPLETELY"

A similar instance is just un dudes much anticipated changing your IP guide that never materialized; http://www.sythe.org/showthread.php?t=1398218 . I think it should be a rule that you can make your thread untill you have the guide/product/or basis of thread materialized otherwise we could very easily find ourselves engulfed in a plethora of "reserved" threads with no real content and simply have the forums filled "threads" with provocative titles and NO follow up. Just a suggestion , granted this is seldom seen here (why i thought it was against rules in the first place) i still find it EXTREMELY annoying when people "reserve" things and frequently bump essentially giving them an extra source of contentless posts to raise count. This isnt a fancy restaurant these people need to wait their turn and post when they got their shit together! NO RESERVATIONS!

 

just report it the thread should be closed unless they have partially already completed the guide.

I do agree it could be in rules. but tbh. it doesn't happen too often here.

 

Im a bit confused .. if its not against the rules to to "reserve" threads what would i be reporting. Not trying to split hairs here just saying if its not officially against rules acting on it locking threads and what not is kinda shitty.. as is reporting it (already been done ahaha). In theory if it were against the rules in the first place there would be no need to report it and have it closed, granted a few slip by and break the rules they could then be rightfully infracted

Either way, just something to consider as these threads infuriate me for some reason haha

 

Its spam, the thread is just acting as a place holder and should be closed any ways, if someone has a partial guide written up they should add it but in that example you gave it is spam since nothing constructive is coming out of that thread.

 

Exactly this, the thread is spam unless it contains some actual content. There is absolutely no reason that someone would need to "reserve" a thread in the guide section considering that a thread can be bumped to the top of the list at any time. I don't think that this is a big enough issue to write a new rule for, as the general rules about spam are totally applicable. If someone writes a partially completed guide it would be the discretion of the moderator to see if it was actually going somewhere or not/they could receive a time period to finish it or a warning via PM. I can see where you are going with this but I just don't think that its necessary.

 

If this isn't all ready against the rules, I fully support it as these posts are just a nuisance and in my opinion useless.

 

It is already covered by the general rule on spam though, how useful is it to add an entire new rule?

How many examples of this can you think of anyway that aren't in the OP?
