Have the prices of rares gone down?

Has rare items dropped in the past few months? I quit runescape but according to my friend santa hats have dropped alot and now their real life money value is really low. I noticed someone on here selling a green h'ween mask and i've always wanted to own a h'ween mask like from since i was 10 and first started playing RuneScape.

Should i go ahead and buy the rare now?
Will it still be rare in a few years?
Will the prices of the rares go back up again?

My theory was "Sure rares drop from time to time but they ALWAYS have to go up because you can never create more of them"

Also sub question: Which h'ween mask should i buy?

 

If pretty sure Jagex mentioned in some post related to the dupe bannings, that any rares on locked accounts will be added back in. Basically controlling the rare market (Jagex are). Not 100% sure, just read the news post on the RS website.

So yea, they will most likely always hold value and steadily increase (unless the game dies), but don't assume they are discontinued.

 

You should wait till the bot nuke where most rares will likely crash and buy then, from there on as bots start to increase again you will see a steady rise in year to come.
