New Laptop help!

Basically I'm looking for a new laptop as mine is dead, and I'll be going back to university soon.

I'm looking to spend around £400 and I'm looking to get the best specs I can for that price. The laptop won't be used for gaming or anything, pretty much just word processing and researching on the internet.

Any help in pointing me in the right direction of a good laptop for that price would be very much appreciated.

Oh and I should add that any links or sites have to be from the UK or somewhere I can purchase one from within the UK. I understand American sites will be much cheaper but I'm looking to order one within the UK if possible.

EDIT: But if you really plan on just browsing the internet and some other stuff you can probably better buy a laptop with a good battery life.

Try to find a laptop with a 3rd generation i3 w/ intel 4000 graphics, 4 gb ram and you are set.

 

Thanks very much for some direction, I have limited knowledge about computers and every laptop I buy seems to die eventually. Think I'm definitely going to head down the intel road though, I've had AMD laptops in the past and they just seem to progressively get really laggy.

I've just looked into i3 ivy bridge mobile processors a bit more and the newer generation is not out yet. You are probably better off going for a sandy bridge i5 which should be around the same price or cheaper than the i3 ivy bridge processors.

The integrated graphics from the ivy bridge series is pretty impressive, I've done some tests on my own laptop.

All of these laptops will be great for what you plan on doing. Their integrated graphics card is more than enough to do the stuff you plan on doing.

You just have to look for the dimensions, weight and the overall appearance of those laptops. And your favourite brand, my experiences with Packard Bell are good (4 yr old mini-laptop still works well) but yours might be less good.

I would personally choose the Toshiba Satellite, excellent specs for the price. Also comes with USB 3.0 ports and is the lightest laptop of those three.
