    Penn state penalties?

Does anyone else think the penalties imposed on penn state are a little excessive?
I understand the crime and cover up were abolutely terrible, but things like taking away all their wins? That just seems unneeded to me.
I also think the scholarships being taken away will just kill penn state for atleast 10 years.
    Anyone else have any thoughts?

I am unfamiliar with the subject you are discussing, but seems to me the same thing is happening to them that happened to Michael Phelps. If you have already earned the awards they should never be able to be taken away, unless steroids, or an enhancement drug like that is used. Phelps smoked pot, which does not enhance your performance at all. I reckon this is just another one of those bad calls

Penn state had a coach who was molesting little kids, and the whole coaches and bosses and everything knew and were covering it up.
A very horrendous crime, but taking away the wins is just crap. The players didnt know anything about it, they just went out and played to win, and they all got taken away.

I'm a big fan of football, i've played it for 8 some years I [as a player] know how hard it is to win let alone.. the [if this is a word lolol] winningist school ever. What Joe did was wrong, no denying that whatsoever, but they had no right taking away those wins+his statue. If you think Pen State you think of Joe and all the success he had there and the history he set, maybe even a reason people went to pen state in the first place. I wish Joe just would of turned him in when this happened. ( .___.)

They should not have removed the wins or the statue, it was completely useless and does not help the children affected in any way.

    My thoughts exactly.
I wish they would have fined them more money honestly, closer to I would say 10% of their average revenue of 60 Million per year it was going on, so 14 X 6 Million like 84 Million.

I personally, not being a huge sports fan, agree partially with the punishment. I think the removal of the statue was right and I think some of the wins should have been taken, but not all of them since '98. I mean if they had just turned him in instead of covering it up then they wouldn't have dealt with this. They made a terrible call and caused several children's lives to be damaged.

They are something we have never seen, although I believe they will be the best possible for Penn State to move forward.

Grats Bowden on #1 for FBS Wins, Great coach, sad to see him get it in this fashion but Paterno hide information or wasn't as upfront as he should have been.

im a penn state so be ready for me to rage here.

Its fuckin rediculous. 60 million dollar fine to the program that runs their whole fuckin school? Have fun making penn state the shit hole of all big ten schools for the next 20 years. Also why the fuck would you whipe their record? i really want an alum to come forward and go head on at the ncaa because now the students have shit to show for while they played there. It is not jo-pa, or any of the players faults that this shit happened. Jo-pa turned Sandusky in to the admin. its not his fault that admin did shit about it.

So basically the Ncaa is fuckin rediculous and for that i have lost all respect for them.

Jo-pa could have easily went to the authorities himself. It wasn't like his life was threatened if he did, so through inaction the blood is on his hands. You can just sit around while a bunch of little kids are being raped by a monster and act like everything is okay. That takes some seriously sick people. He didn't do everything he could.

He really didn't do much. I understand why you are mad, with your relationship with Penn State what it is, but He could have done so much more. Literally just pick up the phone and call 911. He acted selfishly, and he completely disregarded the kids feelings and lives.

I agree. They are punishing Alumni, students, and prospective students because of an athletic program that made incredibly poor choices.

It isn't even close to the same thing. Penn state covered up one of their coaches raping little kids for well over a decade.

Agreed, should've gotten hit with an incredible fine, with minor penalties, it isn't the WHOLE school's fault, and now they're all going too suffer.

I think just the people involved with the cover up should be punished. I don't see why you would punish the students or the athletes by hurting the football program. No, football is not more important than the children who were raped, but the whole football program wasn't involved, just a few sick individuals. No matter what decision was made for punishments, everybody wouldn't be satisfied, but I think they gave an appropriate punishment that will hurt Penn State football for a while but not cripple it.

I think the penalties are ridiculous! Why punish the current players who had nothing to do with what happened years ago? Or taking away bowl games and scholarships from kids who want to play there is just as stupid. I would be pissed if i was playing at Penn State. These punishments will not "teach these kids a lesson" What lesson? That you can be punished for something that happened years ago that you had nothing to do with? The school should have taken the brunt of the punishments not just the football team.

Agreed, It has nothing to do with the people who attend the school or play for the football team. The administration at the school should have had there ass's chewed up and spit out with a bunch of punishments and fines exceeding a 100 million dollars. And as others are talking about the statue, i think it was a move by the school to not have a statue "idolizing" a pedophile, basically to make them look a little better then a freshly laid turd.
