    Headaches after hardcore workouts

I get bad headaches and feel like throwing up after my work outs as when I work out, I go hard as a motherfucker. I was wondering if this was normal and whether it is bad for me?

EDIT: I know that its because of my brain lacking oxygen while I workout or something along those lines but I want to know if it's bad for me.

Throwup? Maybe constant work without rest damages your body.

Umm no that's not a good sign lol might be cause you're pushing too hard or far over how much your body can handle.
Or if you eat right before you work out then go "hard as a motherfucker", that may also be a reason :)

I don't take any supplements and I only started working out again after my long break from broken knee.. its also not because I just started again, I would get it even before.

I am indeed pushing myself but isn't that what you're suppose to do? and I heard if you get the vomiting feeling, it's good because you worked your ass off but not sure if it's true. I've seen where actors worked out and felt like vomiting to lose weight and get in shape to star in movies.

I'm not sure if this is true or not but I remember reading somewhere that the vomit feeling that occurs DURING workout means you're training like an animal.
But if the vomit feeling occurs AFTER a workout, it means something else?
Then again I'm not sure. Try asking one of your gym Personal Trainers about this, they're usually well educated about all this :)

It's not during the workout, it's after the workout that I feel like vomiting and get a headache which slowly goes away.

I'd say that's exhaustion. You're not going to actually improve yourself if you push too hard.

Can you post your workout scheme/schedule?

Do you eat/drink enough or are you on a diet?

What I do now is sleep until about 7:30PM and then eat and then workout around 1AM.

I work until failure which is what you are suppose to do from what I hear.

I just do pushups, situps and this modified exercise for my triceps.

I believe there's a good chance that the headaches are coming from dehydration, make sure you drink a LOT of water to cover all of your workouts.

I think I'll do that next time. Whenever I work out, I get into it with my mind set so hard that I forget to drink water as much as I should. I'll try that tomorrow. I'm on my rest day today :)

Thanks for the help. I'll update you guys on what happens tomorrow.

    Headaches after hardcore workouts

    This ^
I work out a lot, when I first started I was just using whey protein in the morning, pre workout, post workout and at night, I used to push myself very hard. Then after 2 months or do I started creatine too. It made me able to push even harder. I started getting headaches near the end and after my work outs, so I just drank new water during my workout (you want small but frequent sips, big gulps will probably make you puke) and then I downed a pint of water 15 minutes after my workout after I'd had a rest and it seemed to do the trick.
Also make sure you drink a lot during the day before your workout. A workout while dehydrated is like 174947% harder and works your body less.

    Headaches after hardcore workouts

The top 2 tips i can think of to maybe resolve this issue to to:

1.) Make sure your breathing is correct during workout, I've seen a lot of people in the gym look like their holding their breath during reps because their too busy focused on pulling that weight their not breathing correctly, inhaling and exhaling in-between EVERY rep.

Could be starving your brain oxygen without even noticing it, then it hits you after the workout when you've stopped. Remember the general rule is to exhale during the contraption of the rep, then inhale on the return to starting position.

2.) Make sure your drinking plenty of water, before you enter the gym, try to make sure you've at least consumed 500ml of water and had something to eat, otherwise you'll find yourself gasping for water during your workout, and you don't want to drink too much during it otherwise you'll bloat yourself out, feel a bit sick and potentially sabotage your workout.

I sometimes get headaches like you say after intense swimming sessions, it can be prevent though for me anyway by eating some carbs beforehand and staying hydrated, you should be drinking 2-3L of water a day.

Just make sure you didnt have a heavy meal before your workouts, as for your headaches, i also workout quite hard sometimes and come out feeling light headed and dizzy sometimes. Its normal because your body needs more and more oxygen to use your energy as yiur workout.

Hey DMR was just reading through your threads and saw this, i'm currently struggling with dehydration which is causing me to always have headaches and feel sick after i've drank 2 LTR's of water i feel like a HERO lol..

before you work out drink quite a bit and after this drink a ltr or 2 and i'm sure you will feel great.

As Superman has already said, make sure to stay hydrated. Also, many people believe that going very hard without taking proper breaks between sets will result in a higher quality workout. I do not believe that this is the case and if you haven't been doing so, make sure to take proper breaks. I'd say 30-60 seconds inbetween reps and a minute while switching exercises. Do not use that time to talk to other people at the gym, just walk around, get some air inside your body and stretch.

Do you take pre-workouts? Apparently some brands cause major headaches, depending on the person of course.

I used to get headaches too whenever I exercised, but my problem was that I didn't drink enough water so I was dehydrated. Do you drink enough?
