    Real World Trading warning mail?

Opened my email this morning and found this.

    ''Dear Customer,

We have strong evidence that you may have attempted a transfer of RuneScape accounts or traded virtual items outside of the game environment.

Real-world trading destroys the economy of RuneScape, violates your agreement with us, and any player that continues to engage in the illegal activity has no place in our community.

All of your accounts, main and otherwise, are now on our watch list and will be monitored for real-world trading. Regardless of who you are or how long you've been with us, if you decide to real-world trade ever again we will have no hesitation in: (1) permanently removing your account from our wonderful community in order to protect Jagex's rights, and (2) naming you as a defendant in Jagex Limited v. John Does, which is a lawsuit based on antitrust law violations that is currently pending in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California (Civ. Action No. SANC-V12-00972-CGC).

If you decide to ignore this email and instead continue Real-World Trading, we (Jagex Ltd) reserve our rights to pursue statutory damages against you for between $200 to $2,500 per act of past, present, and/or future real-world trading in accordance with 18 U.S.C. 1304(c)(2).

In addition, new infractions have been added to your RuneScape account. If left unchallenged your account will be temporarily or permanently suspended.

Please complete the following security form to monitor your account's status or to appeal the infractions you have recieved:
    http://secure.runescape.com/iGQFWmJYca/m=weblogin/g=runescape/index.ws?mod=offence-appeal&ssl=1

Please note: Due to recent technical problems, some accounts were unfairly punished. Most of the void infractions have been removed. You should visit the appeal section to appeal any unjustified infractions received due to system errors.

    Sincerely,
    Mod Mark.

St. John's Innovation Centre, Cowley Road, Cambridge, CB5 1WS, England.''

Is this another matter of phishing, or is this really Jagex informing me by mail?
A good friend of mine had a similar mail a week or so ago regarding her use of Robotz in Disguise.

Any email like this that has something like 'Please note: Due to recent technical problems, some accounts were unfairly punished. Most of the void infractions have been removed. You should visit the appeal section to appeal any unjustified infractions received due to system errors.' is certainly a fake. They try and get you to appeal it on their website which is a fake website.

Any emails you get from Jagex that have to do with botting or Real World Trading are definitely fake. They'd only let you know of your ban through the in game message center. Some of these emails are starting to look extremely real though, which is why i can actually see some reason to ask if they are legit.

Okay, but how does this person know that I have RWTed? And how does he/she also know that my friend was using RiD?

For one, Jagex never emails you directly to your email it's via your in-game message center, two they don't go after individual players because its bad for media (filing lawsuits) and three if you right click the link and copy the link g=runescape is fake.

Depends on what you bought and whom you bought it from.

Bought about 60M I believe, from a trusted Sythe member. He's not the one who sent me that message, I'm sure about that.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Lots of gold selling websites, aside from Rsultimate, R2p and Nicks gold exchange, sell personal information (emails) to high buying individuals.

It is the de facto text of a phising scam and they don't know you are RWT they just use that as a threat to get people to follow up on the link as most people don't want their accounts banned.

Thats definitely fake, and they say - 'some accounts were unfairly punished. Most of the void infractions have been removed. You should visit the appeal section to appeal any unjustified infractions received due to system errors' to make you think 'Oh this must just be a mistake...' then you go to the phishing site to protest your innocence and then they've got your details.

To be honest, it is a very convincing email.

How do you think these emails appear in people's inbox's, they're sold. Don't forget they're doing a RSGP business for money, if selling to highest bidders includes money what makes you think they wont. You think because they're trusted they wont? You need a Sythe history lesson if so.

OT: Next time buying RSGP or any virtual item use a fake email.

If your email has ever been posted any where RS related, you're prone to these emails. Just leave it at that.

don't open anything, they never email you from infractions, you log into your account to check your messages for them.

they are fake websites used to obtain your password to hack your account.. happened to my buddy for 500m+ so don't ever click on them links! just delete

can we please get a warning about this particular email as a fishing attempt. this is the atleasssst 10-15th thread exactly like this one and there is no sticky to prevent people from making more, no sticky to refer too. its a particularly well made phishing attempt nothing more . jagex only sends messages through the player inbox or as responses to emails you sent to them

yawn, jagex tell you themselves, never enter your password anywhere but www.runescape.com

Also the RID and rwt thing are just mass emails sent out to everyone, I get rwt ban messages for world of warcraft (never played it) and for using RID (never have).

Do not forget the most obvious of all, "dear Customer", they would address you by name/username, goes for all spam.

these phishing emails have been out for over a year.. i believe everyone should already know. they can't prove anything of RWT if you went in-game and said something then you already set yourself up for failure which i kinda figure you wouldn't do..

just be smart just move it to spam and never see it again.

yeah you would think people would already know yet this thread was made this morning and another was made yesterday and countless others, i was just suggesting a sticky to prevent these for those who DONT know.. apparently people are still unaware of these and they are definitely some of the better phishing attempts. not everyone knows this regardless of what you believe.

Tbh, there should be a sticky made for Common scams, Phishes etc.
Btw, the gold sellers don't sell your emails.
    Databases get hacked, like CorruptionX.
If you ever signed up at their site, the hacker would have your email which you signed up with.
So the hackers have a bunch of rs-related emails and sent out 1 once in a while. (1 day delay at most haha)

Actually people get your E-Mail by tracking it on blackmarkets such as Sythe, Powerbot, MMOE etc.
Also, they get access to the E-Mails by databases, mostly hacked themselves, or bought.
But why would a legit gold trader hack databases to sell them, they don't.

Also, this method of hacking has been out there a long time, and if you still fall for the trick your, just plain dumb.

    Correct.
