Odd Fees on "Gift" Payments Received from Paypal?

Hey, so as of lately payments claimed to be sent as gifts on paypal have had larger fees deducted from the amount I receive. I've heard something about Paypal penalizing you in some way for avoiding the fees by accepting gifts but I received no warning about this. So, I'm just wondering if the picture below fits the criteria of a usual good/service payment sent as opposed to a gift as that would explain the size of the fees.

    Thanks for the help :)

That's a services/goods fee. The fee is 2.9% + 30 cents roughly. You can tell a payment is services on the details on your paypal home page.

Thanks for the reassurance, I'm just surprised several people in a row have lied about sending the payment as a gift...

Not all fees are G/S though. There will be fees if PP has to do a currency conversion or if the buyer uses a credit/debit card to fund the gift.

Hmm it seems like I'm still getting these fees. Credit card fees like pockets mentioned sounds possible but I've done 50+ gift trades in the past without a fee of this size being added.

I just tested it again, had a friend send me $1 as a gift

Anyone else have an idea why this is happening/how to fix it?

You might have gotten flagged for too many gifts.
    Don't tell PayPal.
I got Perm limited for telling them a gift was for rsgp
"you avoided fees and that's fraud"
BAM can't use PP any more

Odd Fees on "Gift" Payments Received from Paypal?

    I have a question:

What is the best way to avoid chargebacks from PayPal?

I want to sell my main and got a $200 offer, seems kinda legit but I dont want to take no risks so Im wondering if:

-Would it be better if we use a OMM (he offered fees) will I be safe than?
or: -Just sent as a gift am I totally safe than??

    Please help me out thanks

Don't use paypal altogether, or only from very trusted members if you want to make the chance of a chargeback low. Try using Western Union, Moneypack, Playerauctions, Liberty Reserve since all of those can't be chargedback. Using an OMM doesn't do anything to protect a chargeback btw.

Also wrong place to post that question, start a new topic rather than hijack someone else's thread with a completely different question :p.

Yeah it might be a credit card fee, also payments originating from different countries can have fees associated with them as well

Odd Fees on "Gift" Payments Received from Paypal?

I'm from new zealand and the gift option isn't available in my country, but when I was active and buying gold I would send as a service which was the equivalent to the gift option with no fee's, but recently with people I have bought rsgp from they are getting fee's now, which is weird maybe paypal has caught on or just charge a fee for currency conversion now =/

I think it's too coincidental that it's a CC payment fee or something along those lines. It looks identical to a Services/Goods payment.

If I were you, since you're getting these weird fees anyways, I'd switch to services straight up. It's much safer than gift and PayPal won't get onto you about it.

That's what I started doing actually considering I'm paying the fee anyway.

Although I'm still not sure why this happened it doesn't seem like there's much I can do to get rid of it and i'll just stick to receiving services.

So a mod can close this if they want, thanks for the help everyone :)
