A stroke of luck... now what?

So. This is my first post. Hello, happy to be here, yada yada yada. I've been playing RS off and on for about 8 years. I used to bot / scam / etc. back in the day, never got caught, but that was before they tightened up security (we're talking before bank PIN's, even). Been playing legit for a long time now.

But, today, a very nice account just fell into my lap. This guy on another message board announced he was quitting Runescape. He posted his username and password. I happened to get to it first. It had 138 combat and some nice skills, but the bank was mostly cleaned out. Anyway, dude pm's me from another account. Gives me the answers to all the recovery questions, even switches the email for me. Without logging out of game, I naturally go and change the password and reset the recovery questions (which it turned out were pending anyway). I thank him, he logs.

I figured until I decide what to do with this account I should at least get some cash out of it. So I sell everything left that's of any value. Together with his remaining cash stack it ends up being ~2.5M. I go somewhere secluded and drop-trade it (along with a few thousand elemental runes) to an old f2p pure account. As of right now it's all sitting in the pure's bank until I figure out the best way to proceed

Now, I've been out of the RS underworld for years. What is the likelihood that the 138 and/or my mostly-retired pure will get banned? If Jagex wanted to they could trace everything back to my main through my IP, but what is the likelihood they will? If they do, what action are they likely to take? The main has been a member off and on for most of the time I've had it and has one black mark for offensive language about year ago.

Keeping my main is my top priority. However, if I were confident I could transfer all its stuff without either account being banned, I'd retire my main and switch to the 138 in a heartbeat. Assuming I'm not already fucked, how feasible is this? If I'm probably fucked, how fucked am I and what's the best course of action from here?

Just to let you know, Sythe doesn't tolerate and accept Scammers/Hackers so hopefully you put that to the past and moved on to being a legit user.

Be careful and don't put too much valuables in the account as he might be plotting this whole thing for you to do so.

As for your question, no, I don't think you will get banned but chances are you might as the accounts IP has changed dramatically and GP was transferred, JaGeX might consider it a hacked account but I haven't seen this happen for quite some time so no, again, I don't think you will be banned but there's a small chance you might.

I think you should be alright.. if he cleaned everything from it worth anything major like 50+m on his ip it should be alright... jagex wont care about 2.5m :p and you should be careful of him recovering the account... keep very low cash stack on him >25m because he can still recover by emailing jagex... keep a small cash stack for killing or bossing or whatever you do untill you think its safe... 6 months or so.. then retire your old main and good job on the 138 :p

Not to worry, haven't scammed anyone since '05 or '06. I was a dumb teenager, what can I say?
Thanks for your input. I don't plan to do anything at all with the 138 until my own recovery questions are no longer pending, so he's getting none of my stuff.
Say I want to eventually make it my main, though. Is it suicide to transfer everything? Does anyone know if Jagex pays attention to specifically GP transfer, or just the value of items that are dropped or traded?

To answer your question, no. I would suggest you wait before doing so though. JaGeX has mood switches and sometimes decide to ban and other times way too lose, almost not caring at all.

Just trade little by little everyday to be safer or even take it up all at once. The chances, I would be lead to believe is small but there is always that small chance you do get caught.

Just wait it out for some time before doing anything.

Just go staking on it, transfer all the loot to your other account, < WIN.
It's most likely a scam, i've gotten a maxed main earlier, then it got recovered back, i didn't used my brain that time >.>

just so you know just because he switched all this information doesn't mean he can't and won't take it back. all he has to do is contact jagex and everything will be reset which means every piece of information he gave you will be worthless.

also no you won't be banned

It seems to me the best course of action, then, is to just sit on the account for a while without transferring anything significant to it or paying for membership on it. I've gathered that Jagex will sometimes ask for previous passwords during the recovery process; if it doesn't get recovered, I'll change the password periodically while the account is "laying low." In the meantime I'll just play my main as normal and wait. Am I missing anything?

Honestly I wouldn't even mess with it. You know no previous information on the account so if one day it gets locked you cant get it back.

On top of that he could just be just letting you play for a long time to make you think he doesn't care.

TBH I would just use it to help your own personal account however. Or just bot it.

Just be careful, remember the original owner can always recover the account despite whatever safeguards you believe to have in place.

For all you know he could just be waiting for you to add membership so he doesn't have to pay, or even to put some RSGP on the account. Like I said, be careful, if something is too good to be true it normally is.

My friend once (quite a long time ago) said that he used to do the 'Ahrim scam' and got perm banned from Sythe :p. The person who banned him just said "Once a scammer, always a scammer".

Quite off topic, but oh well.

It would be a poor choice to transfer everything to the level 138 account, even after you set your own recovery questions etc.

This isn't because of Jagex, it's because of the original account owner.

Transfer/play on the account at your own risk but be weary.

And Jagex only monitor large values of RSGP, majorly gold farmers so you shouldn't have anything to worry about if you decided to transfer.

If that happens to me, I'll chuckle, move on, and be sure to get in touch with whoever banned me - in the event that the allure of ripping people off becomes too great and I do end up breaking my six-year streak of legit play. Only time will tell. :p

Anyway, you guys have all been massively helpful. I'm not gonna touch the 138 from here on out. Got a little cash out of it, and now I'm done. Gracias.

Yep. That's right. You hit the nail on the head, Fool. In over half a decade, I have not changed in any way whatsoever. I also still crap my pants, believe in Santa Claus, and ride a plastic tricycle with Power Ranger decals.

People do and think some pretty ridiculous things, but they grow out of it. You'll learn that soon enough. ;)

I would suggest botting frost dragons on it 24/7 with powerbot. You can earn 1m-1.5m an hour. Use this cash on your personal account.
