Legal actions for Macroing (Robotz in Disguise)

Sooo.... Just had this sent to my email today and now I'm getting worried...

Has anyone else had this emailed to them recently?




Dear Customer,

We have strong evidence that you may have purchased and used botting software in the past, specifically Robotz in Disguise software.

Botting and the cheating it brings is destroying your game, violates Jagex's rights under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), and any player that continues to engage in botting activity has no place in our community.

All of your accounts, main and otherwise, are now on our watch list and will be monitored for Robotz in Disguise and all other inappropriate third-party software. Regardless of who you are or how long you've been with us, if you decide to cheat and bot ever again we will have no hesitation in: (1) permanently removing your account from our wonderful community in order to protect Jagex's rights, and (2) naming you as a defendant in Jagex Limited v. John Does, which is a lawsuit based on DMCA violations that is currently pending in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California (Civ. Action No. SANC-V12-00972-CGC).

If you decide to ignore this email and instead continue using botting software, we (Jagex Ltd) reserve our rights to pursue statutory damages against you for between $200 to $2,500 per act of past, present, and/or future real-world trading in accordance with 18 U.S.C. 1304(c)(2).

In addition, new infractions have been added to your RuneScape account. If left unchallenged your account will be temporarily or permanently suspended.

Well I use RID all the time and I haven't received anything.

I think this may have been a failed phish attempt. The website seems to be down anyway. If you logged in, or completed the form, run a virus scan.

 

It is a phishing email. Change your password if you fell for it.

I didn't fall for it, I clicked on the link they provided but didn't log into my account. Just thought I'd share this though.

 

Definitely a phishing attempt, which is why the site shows file not found. It is a fake address through runescape.com but is actually hyper linked somewhere else in the email itself.

 

and it shows the email being sent from"[email protected]"

 

Spoofing emails is easy, anybody could find a guide on it on google.
Does suck that people are so desperate they have to do things like this.

 

People can mask their email behind an already existing email. Just because it's from [email protected] doesn't mean it actually is from Jagex.

 

Whenever you get emails like that make sure you verify that the links are actually legit. Hover over them before clicking on them and make sure it's the actual runescape website, also don't enable java on random sites and your acc should be fine.

 

9999999999s of fake fail phising Emails like this are send out daily.
I'm 99% sure it's just a fake failed phishing attempt.

Jagex doesn't sue macroers , just the creators, and as far as I know RiD breaks no laws.

 

lol just checked i have 2 of them, both received at the same time, i know its fake but i also use rid

someone using rid users emails to send out phising links?

 

That's just a fake have like 100 of them in my junk area lol
