Resizeable chat box in RuneScape?

Only posting this here because I've asked numerous people in-game, on MSN, and on my friends list, and nobody seems to know

Shortly before I quit playing 3-4 months ago, Jagex redid the in-game interface and the shop interface, and updated some features in the chat. One of the new features was a little arrow above the chat box that allowed you to resize the chat box.

As far as I am aware, everybody loved this feature except for the little arrow that got in the way of PM's. I just renewed my membership a few days ago, and I noticed right away that the resizeable chat box feature seems to be gone.

Any idea what happened and when they took it out?

 

I have not played in a while, but this may differ for each graphical setting. Try set it higher and see if you can now resize the chatbox?

 

Yeah I've had that suggested and it doesn't seem to make a different. I'm playing on high detail in resizeable mode, like I usually do. Thanks for the suggestion

 

They took out the resizable chatbox in one of the updates.. I think, when they integrated the Runescape navbar with the actual game client.

 

when they added the runescape toolbar (2 weeks ago) they took out the resizable chat box feature

 

It may either be an issue with patents, or jagex feels that a resizeable chatbox with an actionbar on top of it wasn't a good idea.

I'm talking about patents because that's also the reason we can't move the actionbar around.

 

no... talking about the toolbar that they added at the top of the page when you play rs that says "Home/ Support/ Forums/ Clans" not the action thats in the EoC...

 

Yuck why bother playing in HD when Rs still looks terrible? Also a waste of internet

I hate that "Home/ Support/ Forums/ Clans" bar at the top of the screen, it makes it so when I use the swiftkit timer feature that some of my rs chatbox itself gets cut off >_<

I didn't even realise the resizeable chat feature was gone to be honest, I remember hating it as it got in the way when doing healer in Barbarian Assault, made seeing their health a challenge.

 

Whaat? Rs looks amazing in HD compared to what it looks like it low detail. It actually blows my mind how many people choose to play in low detail on such a tiny little screen. I'd much rather play in HD on a large monitor.

I can see how people with small screens might have had an issue with the resizeable chat box, but I used it every day. I play on a 17" laptop monitor, which leaves a ton of room on the screen above the chat box. I would usually pull it up so it was 2-3x the size of the regular chat box and it would make it much easier to stay on top of lengthy PM conversations, or when you are juggling a FC, CC, and public chat at the same time.

Now that they've taken it away I don't know how we are supposed to get used to a tiny little chat box again

 

Today's patch notes say:

"The chat window can once again be resized in resizeable mode".

I assume this is what you're referring to. I only play in safe mode so I'm unfamiliar. But if it is, and you've played, you've probably already figured it out.

Ah! This makes total sense because 2 minutes ago I just suddenly noticed that the chat box is resizeable again! I thought it maybe it had something to do with GFX settings after all, as I switched to low detail earlier when I was on W2 and then back to high detail.

I find it very convenient if you are having long conversations, or if you have multiple chats going at once (FC, CC, PM's, Public etc):




As you can see, on a big screen even having the chat completely maximized does not largely affect your view on the screen. I usually only have it at half that, depending on what I am doing and how much I need to see. But I've always found it to be a neat and useful feature. If you play on lower details though or a small screen, it can just take up too much space and ends up not being worth it

 

I never played in full screen to use the resizeable chat box, but i do believe it was removed with a previous update as many people already said here.
