2012 Olympics - Basketball

Considering the Olympics cover a wide array of sports, I've decided to make this thread cater only to basketball. Anyone else is free to make a thread on whatever sport you'd like to discuss that's in the Olympics. Anyway, I was going to make this thread a day before basketball starts in the Olympics, but considering there are exhibitions, I thought I'd just make the thread, already. I'll include the schedule for those who don't know it. Also, if you can't watch it on your TV, the games usually stream on the ESPN2 website if I'm not mistaken.

I think that the United States are clearly the favorite to win the gold. However, I think that Spain can beat them as they have the size that the U.S. lacks.

Shouldn't Africa win? Not sure if they're in the basketball olympics but still.. it would make sense

Spain might give US a problem though.

Chandler and Iggy both have to show some improvement because the Gasol brother's are going to be a threat.

Hopefully Lebron, Durant, and Melo can make it happen.

Yeah, I remember Spain was one tough opponent in 2008, I'm very excited to see the upcoming exhibition match.

 

i think its funny how most other teams star players usually play in the nba. as said above i think usa will run away with the gold though

 

Agreed with everyone else, definitely think USA will win gold.

 

We bullied spain around today, but Marc Gasol didn't play.

After watching today's game I believe US will win gold easily.

 

I don't think either teams played to the best of their abilities. I mean why give away your line-ups, strategies, etc. Now, I'm fairly certain the gold-medal match will be between those two, and I think that match will be much more intense/closer.

 

Just a reminder, USA will be playing France tomorrow, that match is at 9:30 AM EST.

 

USA won against Tunisia, it was a blowout. Everyone on the team did a good job, especially Carmelo Anthony who led the team with 16 points and never missed a shot. Anyway, USA will be played Nigeria on August 2nd at 5:15 PM.

 

USA just OBLITERATED Nigeria! Carmelo Anthony scored the most points ever in a game in the Olympics with 37 points, he made 10 threes. USA also scored the most points ever in a game with 156, in total they made 29 threes. They won by a margin of 83. Major props to Melo and the USA team!

USA will be playing Lithuania at 9:30 AM EST tomorrow. I don't think it'll be as much as a blowout as Nigeria, but I still think USA will dominate the entire game. I want to see Carmelo Anthony on beast mode again, I'm excited.

 

Well, it looks like Lithuania are some serious competitors. It was really a close game through the four periods, and USA won by five. The final score was 94-99. Carmelo Anthony led the team with 20 points, as did LeBron. Anyway, I'm excited to face Argentina (Manu Ginobili) on August the 6th, it's at 5:15 PM EST for those who were wondering.

 

USA beat Argentina yesterday, Kevin Durant was doing great. I'm disappointed in Scola and Campazzo's sportsmanship. If you guys didn't know, Carmelo got punched in the groin, I'm glad the only retaliation was a quick 27 points. Anyway, the quarter-finals will be on August 8th at 5:15 PM EST, USA will be playing against Australia.
