Training to become a Police Officer

    Explanation/Intro

Since I first learnt what having a job actually meant Ive always wanted to be a police officer. When I was younger I used to be scared by any noise or movement in the dark, the back of the house I lived in went down a big hill and at the bottom were some dodgy houses and we often had people evading taxi fares etc. and running down past our house, also our house was broken into and we witnessed a theft we could see down the hill. Whenever the police appeared I immediately felt safe and secure and basically It would be great to give that back to other families and help keep people safe.

    Reason for the thread...

I need to start training, Im not that fit and before entering the college I need to be able to run 3km without stopping (by the time I finish training college I should be able to run 6km).

Ive used this running program: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
in the past. Ive never completed it and I need some motivation to start and complete (another reason for the thread).

What are your opinions on that routine? (It seems to have worked really well for me in the past, only stopped due to lazyness..)

So basically, the law part and everything like that Im not too worried about (I actually enjoy reading up on it) its just the physical fitness that I really need to get to work on.

the guide is good, but it's only going to happen if you want it to happen. With this I really don't see how we can motivate you, If you want this as bad as you say then your motivation should be to succeed in your dream career, just go for it, first step is probably taking a break from sythe and computer in general, sythe can distract you and before you know it your back to spending hours on here. You have to be strict with your dieting and fitness and even if your sick you need to keep it up. I wish you the best of luck :)

You should set aside an hour or two of every single day where you go out and run. Maybe first thing in the morning when you wake up?

Unfortunately running and exercise in general is something that requires a lot of self discipline for most people. I personally love running & working out, and get a natural high from it and feel my best and most confident when I am fit and in shape. But without pushing myself to actually work out every day, I quickly begin pushing my exercise regime to the back burner and end up totally out of shape (like right now )

Find what motivates you and stick with that. If you need to follow a work out program or get a personal trainer, that is great. Or maybe you need to find a workout buddy or something that you can run with? Also try setting some personal goals to work towards, that is a great way to push the envelope further and work towards what you want to achieve. Find out EXACTLY what fitness tests you need to pass to get into the police force, and make those your goals that you want to achieve. Keep a log every day to record your progress and watch your strength, endurance, and stamina improve bit by bit until you meet your goals. Keep an exercise journal and record your progress every day so that when you are feeling unmotivated or lazy, you can flip back a few pages and see how far you've come since you began your exercise regime.

    Good luck! :)

Good luck man. You gotta remember that you can't give it up when things get hard. Keep pushing towards your goal and you'll be in uniform before you know it.

Training to become a Police Officer

I'm a bit of a health freak, I jog one day, go the gym the next and repeat. (I've been building muscle for years) When I was younger and in school I used to do cross country and a lot of athletics and to train I basically ran/jogged until exhaustion each day. I do recommend light weights though as you might as well tone up while you're jogging ay :p

To keep myself motivated I basically used to just repeatedly think "I look good, I don't want to be fat" and just kept going. Another little tip is to run as far away from your home as possible. That way when you're exhausted and you've stopped you have to jog all the way back :p (take a bottle of water with you, but DO NOT drink big mouth fulls) literally a little tiny sip just enough to fill the space under your tongue and then don't drink any for a while. You'll want to drink a lot but don't you're just out of breath and the body seems to think it's thirsty :p

Oh and... Moved to Sport/Outdoor :)

    Thanks for the support everyone!

Sticking to a routine is not my strong point, but becoming a Police Officer is my dream so Im giving it my best shot.

Before I start the running routine Im trying to decide if I should jog early in the morning and later in the afternoon, Anyone recommend either?
