I try reformatting my hard drive on my other computer but then this message pops up:
    "You cannot format this volume
It contains the version of Windows that you are using.
Formatting this volume could cause your computer to stop
working. Formatting disks and drives FAQ"

    Any ideas?

I thought this was fairly self explanatory - you must have your windows partition installed on this. If you want you can boot up with your windows install disc and do a complete format that way, which will also remove windows off the drive.

^^^ or use software like DBAN - but be prepared to have a new operating system to install afterwards

You would normally only use DBAN if you want to delete something that can never be recovered. It's used by criminals and such, although it is also used when selling a hard drive to somebody. If you just want to format, then it's easier and much quicker to just format off the Windows CD.

Whenever that happens I just delete all the shit on the drive first, then format it.
