Do you agree with the Drinking/Smoking legal age in your country?

Different countries have different Smoking/Drinking ages, do you agree with the legal Drinking/Smoking age in your country, if not what should it be?

 

Drinking is 21 here, I think it should be 18.

Smoking is 18, but personally I hate cigarettes ( never had one never will. ) so I could care less when it's legal.

 

Where I live, drinking is 18 (which doesn't matter, no one follows these laws anyways), and smoking literally is as young as 13. I also hate cigarettes - if I had the choice, I'd ban them completely. They harm the user, and they harm those around the user as well. And quite frankly, they're one of those unnecessities that become necessities once people get hooked on them. Just get rid of them from the first place, is what I think

 

The government makes billions off cigarettes, let people kill themselves. I couldn't care, we have no right to try and control people so much.

On topic, I don't consider this intelligent discussion, but it's 16 for smoking and 18 for drinking in the UK and I think that's fine. Nothing to explain really.

 

Living in the U.S., the drinking age of 21 is pretty dumb. I'd like to have a fun night with some friends without the worry of going to jail or something. I know my limits - I'm 19 and not fucking stupid. I can control myself and at this age, everyone should have a basic knowledge about alcohol that won't change between the 3 years from 18 to 21.

 

No smoking age in my country, you only need to be 18 to buy. That's one of the reason I see people smoking at age 13 everyday. Drinking age is 18 but my brother can fix alcohol for me so no problem.

Strong liquor is 18
And smoking 16.

drinking age being 21 is just right. i drank at a younger age but i made a LOT of irresponsible decisions and did stupid shit at parties and what not.. i have a much better grip on everything now that im older and am much more responsible with my drinking.

As far as being able to drink beer at 16 and hard liquor at 18 .. thats fucking stupid i fully believe you can get just as reckless and irresponsible off of beer as you can off liquor. Just drink more, simple. Either way alcohol poisoning is something children shouldnt have to worry about, people shouldnt be allowed to drink till they are ATLEAST 18 imo, 21 seems right though

 

I live in the US and the drinking age is 21 and smoking is 18. I would like the drinking age to be 18 but that's only because I want to drink without having to worry about getting in trouble, however, it is probably a good thing it is at 21 because making it that easy for teenagers (most of them irresponsible) to get alcohol and drink could lead to some bad consequences for the teenager and society.

Smoking I don't care so much about, I smoke ciggs whenever I drink but that's about it, the age can stay where it is at, I don't see a point in changing it.

 

I'm in the US and the drinking age is 21, I think it should be 18 because someone can join the army and die in a foreign country...but they can't drink a beer legally? It doesn't make all the much sense to me. Personally though, I think both should just be banned.

 

Actually most bases look the other way to people drinking on, on-base clubs if the people are underage. Also the Military allows soldiers to drink if they are under 21 if the host country permits it. Such as if the host country has a law that allows 18 year olds to drink. It all depends on the base and the commanders. Or so I have read.

 

I really wish it had always been lower. The age limit puts a taboo on and makes kids want to drink even more. And they'll find a way.

 

Smoking for most places is 18/19 to buy but actually smoking at any age is fine. Drinking is kinda retarded, its 18 in some provinces in Canada which is fine IMO, 19 in the one I'm in (but I'm close to Manitoba which is 18 so). The issue is that 16 year olds will still get alcohol no matter how hard to try to not get them it. At a party you are much more likely to get significantly fucked up because everyone is drinking where as at a bar the bartender and other employee's have to be sober and will look after you much better than you will be looked after at a party.

So many times at parties someone starts fucking puking everywhere and passes out in the bathroom and nobody even checks if they are okay unless they are dating or something like that. Having it legal earlier means it goes to the bar more frequently where you get cut off before you get really fucked up. If you pass out at the bar you get sent the hospital.

in my country is 18 and you can also get your driving license then so i think it`s just perfect.

I think the drinking age should be 18, if you can fight for the country you should be able to come home and have a drink if you would like.

Smoking age to buy is 18, Iv never heard/seen anyone being ticketed for smoking under 18 but im not sure on that law.

It's funny because countries in Europe have far more lenient drinking restrictions than the United States (the drinking age is as low as 16 in Germany), but such countries face far fewer problems associated with alcohol.
