Hello, I am making this thread for thoughts and insights about a GP Shop website that me and my irl friends are planning on creating.

Here are a few questions I have:

I think you're better of selling it on sites like these as you're not over 18 and a gold selling site is a business. (Not too sure, but I guess it is lol)
And I would ask some big gold sellers on this site as well to gather more infomation about this subject.

 

1. How dangerous (chances of chargebacks) is it for us to accept PayPal payments? Any suggestions on taking PayPal payments?

You could just sell all your gold via PlayerAuctions and thats 100% safe, the only thing you have to know is that they take a percentage of all your sales you make, but if you think about it depending on what you will be selling at them taking money out of it is worth it for the security of selling/buying

2. Do we have to have a permit to make a merchant website in California, USA? We would all be under 18 years old.
As for a website, i'm not sure you would, you just would need to get a website out, get a really nice layout done (there are tons of GFX artists on this website that you can find in the GFX marketplace) and then just do all your business via Pay-Pal. Doing that you WOULD have to learn more about that to help prevent chargebacks ect. But with all that said i dont think you need to worry about your age as long as you stay legit and not just do it to scam (not saying you are just saying in long term)

Running an online business as an under 18 y/o is NEARLY impossible. I attempted for 3 years before I finally gave up. Unless you can have an adult sign off on stuff, you'll run into block after block when it comes to payments, advertising, and signing up to services.

3 years? How old are you now?

 

My parents and my friends parents would support us. I have a few thousand dollars that I've made from RS that I was planning on investing in my site. We already bought a PO box which is only costing us around $20/mo.

I have a few ideas for advertising that I believe will be great for profit/$ spent on advertising.

What other road blocks could we run in to? It doesn't seem too complicated.

 

Also you have to consider that California has laws concerning e-commerce taxation and customer protection in e-commerce businesses.

 

Personally, I do not think it would be hard for you guys at all.
(I used to design websites and give youtube views for a while until I stopped).

Go find a good website hosting company (GoDaddy or Hostgator etc) and design the pages well, and set up the payment methods on the site. You might want to pay for some search optimization for your site too.

As long as you and your friends are responsible, it should go fine.

To purchase gold they require;

• Photo ID
• Telephone look up
• Signed and stamped contract
• Recorded phone conversation
• Date and signed current documentation (picture with a saying)

All of this may seem a bit intensive and perhaps overkill but they are 100% prepared for any future lawsuits.

 

Yeah, it is nearly impossible but it is still possible. It depends on how much experience you have. I don't pay taxes, maybe I am evading it but I don't know. I just get payment straight to my bank account and PayPal without signing anything. Not sure if what I'm doing is illegal.

I'm under 18, but I program a lot and make £1k a month doing 1 hours work a day.

Many people who try to invest and make businesses online fail, you need experience if you want to make a RSGP shop.

Credit Card & Bank Account (which I have as I'm 16), so you can verify your PayPal.

My total chargebacks count up to $2000 and I earned $15k so far in two years (Google Adsense & Donations).

You need experience making a website first. First few months hosting my website I did not make more than $10.

 

By what I read you know plenty of it and you have a startup budget.
Basicly, go with the startup budget and do plenty of research.. I'd contact some GP website guys here (such as Grave etc)

Just don't lend money or anything for it, as for the rest, I've got a feeling you know plenty of this to give it a go

 

I agree with what a couple of people said above, Just make a Playerauctions page with all your gold/items your wanting to sell and you're guaranteed 100% no chargebacks.

 

I don't know about a lawsuit. But the above does definitely help protect them from charge backs.

 

Yeah, you can't sue people over a gold trade. Though it would really help to win in chargebacks. I would suggest looking up tax laws too, because if you have a PayPal account and you're getting a couple thousand a month in it and then tax times rolls around and PP discovers that all your info is fake you might be in trouble. So it may be smarter to actually pay taxes to avoid dealing with PP and the IRS.

 

I've been paying taxes on the profits I've made from RS for years. I count my membership fees as losses, which offset my profits also the $150 I spent on SoF spins will offset $150 profit. But yeah, I pay income taxes on it and there is no sales tax on non tangible goods.

 

How have you been paying taxes on RS profits without having a business set-up?

 

You pay income tax + self employment tax + any state and local taxes. Depending on jurisdictions you pay sales tax as well.

You're missing some of the above. Also, you might want to watch your accounting, because it sounds like you may be double-counting some deductions which could get you in trouble. Be careful. Consult an accountant or read a lot about tax law before you continue with your plans so you don't make mistakes that cost you down the road.

 

I wouldn't recommend it I sold an account to gold4fun (gold4rs new name) and they told me 7-14 days, and they didn't pay me for over a month, and i had to keep hassling them about it.

I'd suggest finding someone trusted on here and it's a lot cheaper and easier
