Do you think Runescape will ever shutdown?

I personally don't, with all the money he's getting from the game, that it will be alive for many years.

 

Jagex is a company there is not just one guy getting all the profit. We can`t know what is going to happen but i think it is still going for a few good years

 

Everything has a beginning and an ending.
But I bet Jagex will sure be around for atleast 5 years, they still make plenty of profit and the biggest game developers in England.
They employ over 500 people too, so business can't be going to bad!

 

Yes, I think it will. Eventually it will become outdated and unable to keep up with newer, better games which will be using new technology while Runescape will be held back slightly.

However, the day it shuts down isn't for a long time I imagine (5 years minimum.)

i reckon runescape will die down in about 6 years, considering all the shitty updates they're coming out with

 

evolution of combat defintily saved its ass.

If it were for EoC, I won't be suprised they'd die (loss of player) in 5 years.
WIth it now, I can definitly see it stay beyond that and maybe another 10 its possible, but that time frame is definitly unachieveable if it were for EoC

 

Guys, you are all writing that it will shutdown in 5-6 years, but, whats the point in playing it now then? all your work will be wasted then

 

It will come to an end eventually, just like all things do. I don't think Jagex are quite ready to let this money maker go just yet though. I would estimate a good few years yet.

 

I make script for rs and some time try to make money off it and it can pay for my rent.


I stopped playing this game in 08/09 but still visit runescape.com 350/365 days a year.

I don't "play" rs.. i use it to make money.. for example right now i'm training 3 accounts to get max stats and right now they're all 2200 ish.. with 80+ all.. and i can sell each of those for $500.. not to mention i'm also gold farming atm so more profit

 

As stated above, its not a single guy, that would be mad.

And well Andrew Gower and his Co-Founder brother Paul Gower aren't really making "all that money" anymore from Runescape, considering they both already cashed in majority of their shares of the company, its basically all investors now making the shots, hence all the money-grabbing updates like Squeel of Fortune.

As i quote from Wikipedia:
"In December 2010 he left the Jagex board of directors. He no longer has holdings in the company. As of November 2011, he is not listed under the credits for RuneScape. Since leaving Jagex, Gower has founded a new gaming development and consulting company, Fen Research, of which he holds 90% of the shares. "

 

I always think this.. I can't believe Runescape is still up like 2020. That's why I play mostly private servers now.

 

jagex will never die, it will keep on going, if andrew wants to get rid he will obvs sell :/ and then a nother game company will keep on developing, tbh runescape is really advanced imo, i mean its an amazing browser based game, im sure if needs be could turn into downloadable game wich they would have to im sure if the game advances

anyways they wont end, just contine to advance (unless some stupid decsion wich will bring the company down but meh)

 

I think they will keep making updates at an attempt to keep/grow their user base, but eventually no one will want to play anymore and Runescape will become old news.

 

I think the Jadex is stable now and will be stable for at least 3 years. Even a free members pays Jadex by sended traffic, not only full ones.

Runescape will shut-down eventually. But I doubt Jagex itself will, they'll just move onto another project/game. I'd give Runescape probably about 5+ years. The game itself is quite an amazing feat due to it probably being the biggest browser game out there.
