Accounts no longer recoverable

So recently (or I haven't played in a while) Jagex changed the way you recover accounts and now you are only able to change your password via email. You get 6 attempts at putting in your email and there are no manual recovery forms.

No need for recovery questions, previous passwords etc.

Does this mean account sales will be a lot safer because once the email has been changed to the buyer's email, it will be impossible to recover (unless the seller somehow hacks the buyers' email)?

It sounds like a dumb question, but I bought an account from someone who is now banned and there is a risk he might recover the account, however now, would he be unable to?

 

Yea that's how it works now. I got one of my accounts hacked and the hacker registered his own email and now recovery questions don't work. So basicly the account is his and no way to change it back lol. Unless i somehow magicly get his email and pw to change it to my email lmfao

 

So your account got recovered before this update and now its impossible to recover it back. unlucky lol

 

You can just email jagex at [email protected].
Act like an angry parent and they will send you a manual recovery form.
So no, account sales aren't secure.

 

If you have the original information it will re-set it to a desired email.

 

This, JaGeX will do anything to stop people from leaving the game, so if you E-Mail them they will send the manual form, and if you the have correct info about the account you will be able to get it back, so accounts are still recoverable.

 

Very very hard to get back.

 

i was wondering to cuz i forgot my old mains pass and it had 99 fishing and thats how i made my cash and i forgot email to it so thank god for that

 

Account sales are about the same, not safer and not really any worse. Ive had a few accounts be recovered on me after buying them even though my email was the registered one

 

yeah i'm in the process of recovering my main from "GP King", your friend, after he scammed my account. hopefully jagex gets back to me soon. this would be alot easier if i could just manually recover my account though, i wish they hadn't made this update.

 

I feel like they should have done that in the first place.. Was there a reason they didn't?

 

i think it's worse because if someone puts a rat on your computer and get your email they can change the email registration over to them, and then it takes much longer to get your account back.

 

It could go either way really. better or worse like i said before because accounts could be recovered by anyone with the right info back then and now you only need a email and info is helpful but not manditory.

I don't see accounts still being completely safe, but I do see it as a neat little update.. If somebody's dedicated, they can easily get back the account.

Yes, it is. There are ways around the process so that the original creator can always get it back, all with a simple email to Jagex.

 

yeah, jagex still hasn't got back to me, but hopefully they do. i wish i could just recover manually cus the hacker probably has dropped all my stuff by now.

 

From what I read earlier, you were not "hacked". You simply gave away your account details to a random non-trusted member, in the hope of getting paid at a later date.

 

basically the same thing. i lost control of my account. i'm in the same situation someone would be in if they were hacked and lost their account. and they got me 99 herblore ^.^ so when i get it back i'll be able to sell it for even more. can't complain.

 

^ i highly doubt that someone who buys an account and doesn't pay for it would get it 99 herblore .. so either you're lieing about the 99 herblore part or the guy indeed paid you and got 99 herb on the now-his account and you will recover it.
