    I Deliver Pizza

Hey guys, I live in South Korea where everybody drives like shit. People are always breaking traffic laws and the cops rarely ever give a shit.
So what I am about to say in this thread is completely normal:

I deliver pizza on a scooter. And when I do,
    1. Red light = there are people walking around and cars making turns, so be cautious when passing
    2. A lot of cars on my side, but none on the other? It's okay to drive on the other side.
    3. Speed limits mean nothing
    4. The side of the roads are made for motorcycle delivery
    5. Drive on the sidewalks when there are a lot of cars around

    Yeah it's shit.
What would happen if I did this in your country?

Yep, that sounds like where I live (Philippines). Except for number 3. Its literally impossible to speed, because traffic is always present. Even in the middle of the night or even early morning (4 amish)

On the highway, its possible to speed. But people rarely get caught. If you do get caught, a nice and small bribe is enough to get out of it. One time, when my mother was driving ran a light (or something like that, I forgot the offense). The officer pulled her over. She offered a bribe of 50 pesos, which is a little over $1. Terrible!

I used to live there, and I'll be back there in a few months.

Everything he said is true. When my dad bought a car there, he was still new to the road and all. He was stopped for "Swerving", we never heard of that till we stayed there. The fine was a little over $10 (500 pesos). And my dad asked if he could pay the officer instead, he paid them and he was let off.

Not to mention in Philippines there's color coding. Once a week, depending on the last number (I think) on your plate, you cannot take that car out, at least in most cities/places. They pulled my mum over once, I was there, and she was prepared. My youngest sister was the star of a show there, and my mum just said something like it was related to the show, she was let off and didn't need to bribe him because he liked the show lol.

My younger sister was going home, being dropped off by my dad's wife's cousin. I cannot remember why, I think it was for swerving too, but the officer stopped them. Neither of them were carrying much, I think they had $2-4 with them. The fine was $10+. So they proceed to tell the officer that was all they had. The officer then told them "Oh, okay, I'll take it for you. Don't worry about it, I'll chip in money to help you pay for it too". He obviously pocketed it lol.

You can bribe yourself out of most situations with just a few bucks there.

In my country a police officer took fish and potatoes as a pride from a friend and was caught a few weeks later. He lost his job and now hes spending time on prison.

In Soviet Russia, fish take you!

OP, that sounds completely fucking horrible. I'm glad to say I live in the U.S. where you get ticketed for complete bullshit. I'd rather be ticketed than dead o_O .

    1. Traffic Violation
    2. Traffic Violation + possible revoking of license
    3. Speeding Ticket
    4. Not really made for Motorcycles, mainly for emergencies + bicycles.
    5. Highly illegal, Most likely revoking of license + charged with attempted manslaughter/homicide.

    In the US that is.

I live in the US, so they would have tons of fines and probably get jail time for reckless driving.

But when I go visit Dominican Republic, people sometimes drive like that too, and half of the drivers be drunk so it kinda sucks over there too.

This is exactly what happens every single time. You will also get a traffic violation for talking to the car next to you. In my town, anyways...

No haha It's just in some countries, evidently from OP South Korea being one of them, that people drive and neglect traffic laws as the law itself does not take any precautions towards it.

But answering the OP discussion, in Australia, certain traffic lights have safety camera's which take shots of vehicles that go over the limit or cross a red light.
Sometimes undercover police officers camp inside their car on common/busy roads with their own speed-o-meter and bust on people by sending them a letter + fine, stating that they were caught going [this speed].

Patrol cars where I live rarely give chase when someone breaks traffic violation, they just send a ticket to the plate numbers home. Unless the patrol car is already in motion then they do give chase.

Well, I'm from Vietnam and I'm pretty sure all asian countries are similar in many ways, makes me feel glad to live in Canada though. I miss those extremely cheap bags of chip they sell (that actually taste good)

It's not necessarily based on their race.

Personally, I'd say they're better. As of now, I'm in the middle east. I know that driving here is a complete breeze. Roads are wide and smooth. I drove in the Philippines, sure they don't follow rules, but I'll say it's a lot scarier driving there than almost anywhere else.

The road is horrible, usually there's no line. I drove a bit when I got my license in the Philippines, my mum was in the front seat. I'll admit I've screwed up a few times, and I remember her once telling me to get in lane when there were no lines, I tried to, but if I remember correctly a car ended up honking at me lol, I was sure I was in lane though.

If the road there is wide, it's packed with a lot of other cars. You're usually a few centimeters away from the cars behind and on the side of you. If you're still new, you'd take a lot longer getting to your destination. When my aunt visits there she's too scared to even try driving.

Heck, I remember I was in a taxi cab once. There were these 2 huge buses on each side. The car wouldn't fit and couldn't go through, it was really tight. The driver slowly tried to go through, then one of the buses just drove straight, it moved the car's side mirror a bit. I've seen a guy sticking out his leg out of a big bus which apparently meant it was turning right, the bus was driving fast and crazy-like.

Taxis are automatic here. In the Philippines it's manual. Imagine driving manual when there's usually heavy traffic. When you're used to driving in a place like that, you're usually more alert. If you can drive in one of those asian countries, you could drive pretty much anywhere else, cannot say the same if it was the other way round.

Busses are a huge problem with the traffic. Especially in Edsa. Always squeezing and not staying in their lanes.

Well, I was thinking about what I do and compared my job to to ones in more developed countries. I've realized more than what I've bargained for.

I am paid approx 5.5USD an hour, and received an extra 40 cents (approx) after every delivery. But if I am late, I received a penalty and money is deducted.
Compare that to how much delivery boys in more developed nations are paid.

I mean, the minimum wage is over 10$, they get paid more than that, and they deliver their pizza on a less fuel-efficient truck or car!

it really gets you thinking about how the country you live in is not exactly that great and awesome.
