Computer help ! Thinking of rebuilding if I can or add on ?

I have an older intel desktop laying around , my friend wanted to play WoW. The computer said needed direct x 9? Or something , that has to do with graphic card right ? It says it has a pci-e slot so can I just add on and put a new graphic card in it ? Also putting more ram .... It has 512 mb stick and three more slots so I can put in 3 more 512 s with no problems right ? Quick help would be nice and so will input on what to do ! Thanks

If there is anyway I can get a computer to run a new game on good setting for around 300 as my budget is very low please tell me what I should get !!! Or if I could get anything ? Parts etc .

 

For only $300, I'd look to upgrade. Check for compatibility. If you use NewEgg, use the details to figure out if the graphics card / RAM sticks you buy will work with your case. It shouldn't be a problem. I'm not sure if your case is compatible, but rather than getting three 512Mb sticks, it would be better to get 4x2Mb or 4x4Mb. even 2x2 would be good enough for WoW.

Well I don't know much about computers haha , its like 06-08 old probably lol it's weak ... It's cheap old haha says intel celeron d processor 352 3.33ghz | 533mhz FSB | 256 kb l2 cache intergrated video with pci-e slot. 100 gb hard drive 512 mbram ddr2

 

Direct X is simply a driver for 3D gaming, usually comes installed when you download a graphics card's drivers. With any driver though it should be updated when a newer version is available. Honestly it's in your friend's best interest to get a new computer, WoW is a more CPU intensive game and Intel's old processors really won't work well. You can install a new GPU and upgrade the RAM on it(Check the Mobo first), but really a full system upgrade is reccomended at the computer's age.

To run a new game on good settings you're probably going to have to either increase your budget or lower your expectations as $300 isn't going to cut it. Your best bet is to buy someone's prebuilt computer with 4GB of RAM and maybe an i3/i5 pocessor for the $300, and upgrade the GPU. Alternativly you can increase your budget and we can get together a parts list to suite your needs.

 

Well I named some stuff , is there any way I can get a parts list for 300 so I can run wow on low with like no lagg hhaha or even just medium ????

 

$300 is going to be hard to do, so let's recycle some parts. What computer are you currently using? Or, which one are you looking to salvage the parts from?

 

Recycle the hdd, optical drive, case, and powersupply depending on the wattage outpuy.
Get a fm1 motherboard and an fm1 amd cpu, seeing as they have the best integrated gpu. Then buy 4gigs of ddr3 ram, and you should be good. I cant link you to parts right now, im on my phone, but just look on newegg.

I need to know the exact computer model, all I know about it as of right now is that it's an older Intel with 512mb ram and a pci-e slot. From knowing the computer model I can find out the PSU wattage output, the case's dimensions, the HDD's sata type etc.

 

The problem is your computer uses ddr2 memory and a socket 775 cpu, these are upgradeable, but will not get you great performance for your money. The best cpu you could upgrade to would be a core 2 quad i believe, then depending on your mobo specifications, most likely 2-4 gigs of ddr2 memory.

Like i said, socket 775 core 2 quad if you can find one, and 2 gigs of ddr2 ram is the best you can get. Didnt look to see what pci slots you have, champion will do that lol

If you are looking to just upgrade your system, look at my last post.

If you are looking to fully rebuild, i have a post a few up, but ill say it again here.

Reuse the optical drive, hdd, case, and possibly power supply, i didnt find much specs on your system, but i also didnt look to hard.
Find a fm1 mother board you like, and buy that. Next, find an fm1 socket cpu that is good, you can google for benchmarm comparisons and reviews, and buy that. After that, buy atleast 4 gigs of ddr3 ram. This should be under 300 dollars easy.

You could also save up a little more and get an am3+ motherboard and cpu, and get a dedicated gpu, a 550ti will only run you around 150.
