Large Threads Should Be Re-Opened

It is quite clear that the database problems Sythe was experiencing are now fixed. This means that large threads should be re-opened, as they were closed in order for the system to recover. Now that the recovery has happened and was successful, it is time to revive the closed threads on the marketplace. Many users (myself included) worked very hard on these threads, and would like to see them back online

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't those large and massive threads the source (or at least a big part) of all the server/maintenance issues in the first place?

 

Best to not bring them back. Just make new threads and link to them.

 

Yeah I'd say leave them be, it might just bring back some of the shit we had to deal with the last month.

 

I miss the threads which contained a lot of Sythe history. But other than that it wold be pointless to bring them back. Don't chance it.

 

I'd really like to see some of the Big threads opened back up. Some of us really did work hard to make them as they are. Now that the servers are fixed i mean whats the big deal. Dont want peoples hard work to go umbumped.

 

Exactly as others said, these threads mean A LOT to big sellers. We've invested time and effort to get them where they are, and it's very unfair for them to be taken away from the veterans. We put in the time / sweat to get them to where they were, we shouldn't be forced to do away with them unless it is absolutely detrimental to the site.

 

I agree with this. Gold sellers were completely blind sided.

 

Also, if large threads are all supposed to be closed, why are some still open??

Think this proves that large threads are not causing harm.

 

I would also like my thread back. As of now I don't get even close to the business I used to get. People don't even view my thread because of the low post and view count compared to others. When I was new I would search for the biggest threads because usually the biggest threads could be trusted, and i'm sure this is the perspective that many other new users have. I was proud that I had established one of the largest market threads and was disappointed when I was told it would most likely remain closed forever.

The problem is people don't even even view our thread to click on that link. They automatically disregard my thread because of the low post count in comparison to others, where in the past I would have been one of their first choices.


I know it isn't your intention to punish us, but is opening a few ACTIVE threads really going to put that much stress on the server?

How is it pointless? Established threads = reputation, and by keeping these threads closed our reputation is partially diminished.

As a seller on Sythe the success of our business highly depends on how we are portrayed. Having a large thread portrays us as a successful seller. You can say suck it up and grow your thread again but in that time we lose money which no seller likes. Also it is very discouraging to know that at any time my new thread can be shut down.

 

Is there a way that the server could be upgraded for a small price, like say all the large market threads pitching in 30 or 40 bucks? Idk if that's how it works, just trying to problem solve . If anyone wants me to advertise their thread, just hit me up, you know where to find me.

 

I guess I wouldn't see a problem with allowing larger threads at least for known sellers.

 

These threads are/were the problem, having the database loading a thread with 402 pages (so thats 8K posts.) is not good for the server.

Well it was detrimental to the site, it was almost impossible to post without it breaking, let alone moderate.

Yes, as I said.. R2Ps selling thread alone is 8K Posts, thats a lot of data to load everytime the thread is viewed.

Its abnormal for forum to have 8K posts on one thread, most forums limit threads anyway, its surprising it took us this long.

Its simple, if we have to unlock one thread, we'll have to do it for everyone else, and then the forums will break again. Before you reply with "just unlock it for the big guys", Lol, No thanks.. that'd be an insanely corrupt move.

I'm hugely against this, I will put in all my effort to prevent this happening. Big traders should not be able to get their threads unlocked when other traders don't, its unfair, its almost promoting them over others. and the threads themselves are bad for the server.

 

I admit it can be a pain, but why not simply link the old threads on the new ones and maybe even link the posts over? I would rather have the site running better than have massive threads reopened, like Karl said if they did it for one they would be expected to do it for everyone. If you just link back to your old selling thread, then I don't see how it's an issue as all the vouches and posts are still there.

 

That isn't the issue here. Linking members to your old thread is all well and good, but the newer members to the site and the 'browsers' tend to be attracted to the threads with the higher number of views and replies. Making the bigger traders restart their threads is essentially forcing them to be on 'even-par' with other sellers, something which they have been trying to break away from while being in the market. After all, competitive advantage is what makes a successful seller successful.

Now I realize it may not be practical to have all large threads reopened, but surely there is some middle ground which can benefit those long-term members who have held successful shops, while not having a detrimental effect on the servers.

 

Actually couldn't we as mods just combine the two threads and let them just continue business.

Karl I see how it would be unfair. But I believe the high traders should keep their old active threads.

 

But where do you draw the line between known sellers and the rest of sellers?

Is it possible to put the post count and view count of the previous thread onto the new thread? So when people search they will see your business has had lots of business.

Does that even make sense / is it viable?
