    I got a phishing email yesterday for the beta, almost got me tbh!
    Anyhow, isn't their new combat formula flawed, putting them back where we are now? or maybe i have it wrong. For instance, a pure with 1 defense, 60 attack and 99 strength would be combat level 102. also, a main with 50 attack, 50 strength, and 50 defense would be 102 combat... wut. In order to make it fair, they should negate defense from the formula in order to calculate raw offensive power.. this would make X+Y+2= combat, with X and Y being the 2 highest combat stats of the account. This would make the pure combat 161 and the main 102 still, obviously much more fair. Correct me if i'm wrong.

    I think you underestimate the role that defense will play with the new combat system.

    Jagex is about to roll out something extremely game changing regarding defense...

    In the event that 99 strength is losing to 50 defense, that's not defense being OP, that's offense being underpowered.. I could see if it was impossible to hit on 99 defense, but 50 beating 99 strength is insanity..

    lol double rapiers hitting 300's at twice the speed

    im kinda looking forward to this update i think it will actually take the grind away from training combat skills


    Ok on a serious note i am assuming that the max hp pures (1 def) will have is around 990 if they are 990 const
    while someone with high defence wearing good armour will have around 15k
    if i am not mistaken that means that 1 def will not be able to function properly as they can get constantly 1 hit

    also due to the fact that 99 prayer does not count towards your combat level that makes turmoil almost necessary
    as well as 99 attack and strength if you want to be maxed

    because off this i reckon rune turmoil pures will be the next lowest level pure able to function properly

    honestly don't stake for a month or so after the update.. its 100% safe to say that with all of jagex's big updates there are huge flaws and glitches/bugs in which people abuse.. so this is a combat update which in turn results in combat bugs/glitches which people can abuse..

    Staking and PKing are going to be very interesting after this whole update. Personally, I've got my fingers crossed that this breathes some new life into the wilderness and that a whole new generation of honorable PVP is born.

    That may be asking too much, but we will wait and see :p

    I'm not sure when they will send the emails. I know that i've been accepted though, I was auto accepted when I signed up because I have been a constant member for more than twelve months.

    This update will definitely play a huge part with defence but the beta i think is a test run for them to see if people like it or not and change what we dont like so i guess thats the most important thing be loud if we dont like something

    Lol, excellent observation Aonor. I guess that is one of the upsides of the combat rework, bigger racks on the female characters :cool:

    I can see all the nerdgasms happening all over RuneScape right now...

    I'm sure you'll be leading them :p

    I think the idea of dual wielding is pretty bad-ass but it will make things like dragon defenders, god books redundant. Why have a slight boost when you can just have two!?

    I dont think 99 strength will lose to 50 defence if 99 strength comes with decent attack, therefore its not offence being unpowered. IMO I think 70 defence accounts will be the new "pure" since 70 defence allows you to wear most of the armours

    Jagex has stated that your armour and weapons are going to make a huge difference from one fight to the next. They want people to actually think about their gear setups, and plan carefully to make sure they have the best defence, bonuses, and abilities for every specific fight. This leads me to believe that simply dual-wielding two high hitting weapons is not always going to be the best option for many fights, and will ensure secondary defensive/stat-boosting items still have their place and individual uses.

    This is smart, excellent idea adding this to the thread :) You should add it to the OP somewhere as a warning.

    It is unfortunate, but because of the BETA, phishers now have a reason to send out new e-mails and target new groups of people, and so everybody needs to be aware and cautious to ensure they don't fall victim to one of these phishing e-mails.

    One thing I see happening in the future is that nex/gwd/any boss for that matter will become obsolete in a way that it'll be too easy to pvm.. think about the dual weps for example.. a cls and a rapier hitting 50% at bandos beats out the divine anyday.. and think of rapier and ccbow wielded at nex.. it'll rape hardcore.. or swh/ccbow at corp.. either way bosses will be significantly easier.. it'll take about a week afterwards for everyone to test the combinations and then the guides will pour in.. the armor will crash hardcore.. and it'll be a ffa in the wildy..

    I just hope they make bosses harder by giving them special abilities.. like guthix can drain def for example and arma can drain range zammy drain mage and sara drain attack? just something that would be pretty cool
