Starting to workout at the gym...

So yes, I'll finally be starting gym, until I get bored, as I want to be in shape and stay healthy.

Now what I'm ''worried'' about is that I know nothing about gym.

Like could someone tell me how many times a week is reasonable and what I should do to maximize my training (eat more/less..)?

    I'm 5'9 - 5'10 and ~135lbs. (man)

I already ''Worked out'' at home, but nothing over push-ups, set-ups and stretching.

It sounds like you need to gain some mass. Your weight is very light for your height/weight/gender. Take a look at this:

    http://forum.bodybuilding.com/forumdisplay.php?f=13

^ That forum in general has all the information you could ever need.

    Good luck.

I'd recommend at least 4 times per week(Monday Tuesday Thurs Fri??). People say that you should take it slow at first. NO. When you start working out for real, you gain the MOST results you will ever gain(unless on the juice) because your body is not used to it, so you should give it your all from the beginning.

Like KMJT says, it seems like you need to gain mass, so eat ALOT. Maybe 500 calories more than your daily needs.

Split your routines into 4 days,
    eg.
    Monday: Chest/Triceps
    Tuesday: Back/Biceps and ABS
    Wednesday: Rest
    Thursday: Shoulders/Traps and ABS
    Friday: Quads/hams
    Saturday: Rest
    Sunday: Rest

    cardio whenever you want

Do at least 10 sets per body part per week, 15 sets MAX
3 Sets per exercise - 8-12 Reps each set

By this i mean, if you chose a weight, by the time u hit 8-12 reps you basically cannot do anymore.
    Find excercises: http://www.bodybuilding.com/exercises/

    Tip:
-ALWAYS eat carbs before(1-2 hours) and protein after your workout, to replenish your muscles. Big mistake not to.
-Drink at least 1 litre of water during the workout
-Do not go over 1 hour 30 mins in the gym, your body starts going into the catabolic state

    Hope this helps :)

    Here's some broscience

you're a beginner and really skinny

    4 day split, chest/tri, back/bi, legs, shoulders
    this once a week.

    if you're really dedicated.
Mon:Chest/back Tues:Arms+ shoulders wed: legs , repeat this thurs, fri, sat, and rest SUN, that is 6 workouts, 2 cycles a week. only do this if you're dedicated

cardio at a MINIMUM, eat WHATEVER YOU WANT, eat more than you are right now, and make sure you're getting enough protein, 6 meals a day, go nuts, you need to eat more than you burn.

That's not to say to binge on chocolate, but you can eat more pizza, fried chicken, don't feel bad to eat dirty food like that with protein.

Rest is up to you, work hard, 10-12 reps, COMPOUND movements, dumbells and barbells over anything, push yourself, if its too easy then lift the weight.

Eat alot of protein, you're pretty skinny so you dont have to worry about junk food eat it all you like. Like the others have said devise your workouts specify them for each day and make sure to take in ALOT of protein, i also suggest taking protein shakes. GL with this!

Starting out is the most hardest thing to do. You feel like an idiot in the gym you walk around not knowing what to do right? The best thing to do is educate yourself meet friends who know what their doing watch youtube videos join the bodybuilding forums. Get some good protein, dont drink soda or junkfood and FASTFOOD do not east any of those, drink lots of water and get a good schedule and I GUARANTEE if you do it right and you see your strength going up you will continue. Remember the hardest thing is starting out because most people try to get into working out and do everything wrong and see little to no gains and quit. And also set goals for yourself like to hit a max bench in X amount of weeks/months. I am a workout aholic and I sit on the computer all day learning about everything possible, if you have any questions pm me ill talk on skype and relay a lot of information to you i wish someone told me when i started. Remember if it was easy everyone would be ripped and have a six pack, it takes a long time to get "big" but in the long run its well worth it.
