WoWScape/LoLScape?

Anyone else notice the similarities between the style of combat in WoW and LoL in line with the new combat rework? The whole ability system and crap... whether you think it will be a better system or not, what we are seeing is a loss of originality in the game, it won't be the same again. Just seems like a desperate attempt to save the game, by becoming more similar to the more popular MMOs. People who plays WoW/LoL, notably, have long criticized the RuneScape combat system... hit,hit...hit,hit - claiming it has no skill. Whether true or not RuneScape isn't gonna be RuneScape anymore.

Note: I'm not saying the new system is going to be EXACTLY the same, that would be stupid to suggest.

 

yeah runescape is taking features from other games. The combat is gonna be like wow, ability bar from like wow, higher damage hits like wow and many other games. they are adding fullscreen and what not

 

I agree. People don't play Runescape to be playing WoW, they play it to be playing Runescape. I do see this as a latch ditch effort to save a declining game. It'd be like Nintendo trying to upgrade the N64 to keep up with the PS3. They wouldn't be able to do it with the hardware capabilities. They're not going to make an MMO that will compete with the latest gen MMOs unless they start on a whole new game. I am sure they are going to alienate a lot of the older player base.

If I want to play a F2P WoW clone I would play Runes of Magic, and if I wanted to play LoL I would play it.

 

i understand what you are saying, but thankfully they are letting beta testing happen first, although i bet even if players say they don't like it they will still go though with it.

 

i'm not sure how in depth your knowledge is of the MMO genre but, EVERY MMO i have ever played uses the concept of a hotbar, teleports, charges, auto-attacks etc....


comparing to two well-known games and claiming " their losing orginality" is just ignorant.

it's how ever MMO is, jagex started off as a browser based game yes, but they are trying to slowly evolve into a massive scale MMO style game, which is hard to do when you just click once, and wait 30 seconds, click again, wait 30 seconds....


that stuff gets boring, i should know i been at this game since 2001.

Granted i do personally think the combat update will prob make the game un-enjoyable doesn't mean all the kids shit bitch and moan when it's not even released yet..

don't knock it till you try it, a hard head makes for a soft ass.



edit- and i see alot of the 2006-2009 player base saying their ruining runescape.

Please... runescape was ruined when they made RS3d <-- if anyone was from classic you'd know what i'm talking about.

 

although it is true that alot of runescape fighting requires no skill the combat on runescape is unique is this change is going to be like wow then it will just be like the millions of other games there is a reason why runescape is the most popular free morpg in the world.

 

meh to be honist i think the game is getting better just the community, eveyone is ranting so much the worst bit is not the ranting by far it is that runescape has become scam scape

 

rember beta testing is happening first so maybe if people don't like it, it may not happen. (i hope)

 

Pretty soon runescape will have mounts, we'll be able to jump etc.

 

Sorry, but you just said a really stupid thing. You agree'd with me but then contradicted yourself massively. You said not only do two of the biggest MMOs have these things, but a lot do. Then you went on to state that this doesn not mean RuneScape is losing it's originality? Are you sure you even know what you're saying yourself? Massive contradiction. You just agree'd with me, it fully portrays a loss of originality, a loss of what MADE RuneScape, RuneScape. I think you have confused yourself. Also I only mentioned WoW and LoL because they are like the two biggest competitors of RS, the last few years they have outstripped it. If ANYTHING, these are the only reason Jagex is tending to copy-cat desperation. Think your response out better next time.

 

One of the main reasons I told myself I'd never play WoW or LoL is because of the unfair PvP system. It's all based on connection and having an expensive computer, and spending hundreds of dollars on "gaming" mouses, keyboards, to have advantages. I liked RuneScape for it's originality also. I think they believe this move will make the game more popular, afterall the biggest critique of RS is the PVP system. They are doing this because they know WoW/LoL is 10x more popular. You'd be an idiot to suggest this wouldn't a loss of originality. It's about greed, they are alienating their players for more profits.

 

TL;DR- all i stated was i don't like the game anymore, lost intrest/beat it for the most part.

2001-2004ish?~ yea, new game gfx kinda suck but its enjoyable

2004-05ish era when ever rs3d came out~ OMFG THIS SUCKS, its like wow, wow clone, clooone.

few months later- yea this is pretty fun, yea man i like this, way better then classic

2007-8ish?~ yea its okay.. needs more stuff tho, could use better content

do not hold me to those time frames as i'm sure i'm way off.

but as you can see runescape has had and will always have that moment of raging, then enjoyment.

 

The combat is copied from the console game "Dragons Dogma".

If you haven't played it go to the Xbox marketplace > demos > Dragons Dogma

 

The first thing I thought of when I saw the actionbar/hotkey system was how they were copying other popular online games.

It pisses me off that Runescape is becoming less and less unique.

 

Despite the fact that im a skiller, I think the combat rework looks absolutly brilliant. Im really interested to see how it turns out!

 

Plenty of games with an action bar?
Why does people only compare runescape to WOW? what about TERA? maple story? Aion? diablo? they all have action bars.
