    combat basing
    I'm going to make a range tank.

    For ease of training I'm thinking of training mage first so I can get some quick defence levels before I begin to train range.

    If I do this I will be mage based. Does this really matter??

    combat basing
    Doesn't matter if you range is equal or higher I believe. Just search for combat calcs and punch in your desired stats to check

    Same as Kabal said, Magic won't really progress you many levels anyway once you start gaining the others
