Does God exist?

I don't think Humans were meant to be religious and worship as we do. If "God" was an actual entity/person/whatever the fuck.. I think he'd rather us live and not worry about praising him and giving money for no reason

 

I've sometimes thought that maybe we're a lesser species and maybe a more powerful being controls us similar to RTS games hahaha.

But I personally believe god created the universe and all

 

I've had much the same thought as it is entirely possible and it can relate to the current generation much better. But why do you believe in god?

 

Like i said before ofc this idea is a possibility :

 

Evidence may make God seem unrealistic, but would you take that chance? I believe in God because I think with some of the things that happen that there has to be, but at the same time some of the stuff that happens in this world is horrible. It's your choice in the end though, take the risk if you want. I have faith and am very thankful for all he does.

 

I believe in self decision; believe what you want to believe just don't try strongly influence anyone who doesn't agree. I personally don't believe in god nor do I have a problem with those whom do.

 

You're thankful he allows millions of children to starve to death each year?

 

It wouldnt make sense if God did exist that it would be vindictive especially if it was omniscient and had a "master plan".

What would be the point of life if He didn't?
We'd just die in our graves and earthly achievements would mean nothing.

 

You're arguing the existence of god out of a necessity for meaning. I think that argument correctly applies to why a god would be fabricated. Maybe you think life is meaningless, but I personally think that altruism is fulfilling even without the presence of a deity/heaven. .

 

Even if God did exist, he/she/it isn't the all holy and kind God you think. If He/She/It had this power you seem to think (for now I'm saying he) he has then why does he sit back and let all the bad things happen?
Why weren't we created in peace?

 

+1 in i believe in a God like JohnK says how is it that everything exists? if earth was 10ft closer we would be burning and 10ft back could had freezed us? how wierd that everything is perfect

 

Ever read Genesis? it tells you why "we dont live in peace"

 

Would we ever learn our lesson if someone always came and cleaned up after us every time we make a mess? Our society is our responsibility.

 

You believe that something exists, otherwise how can everything exist? That makes no sense.

This is an argument from ignorance. Just because you do not know how the Universe is so 'fine-tuned', does not imply that someone created the Universe. For example, if your mother told you that on June the 7th 2012 you would be talking about God with a random stranger on the internet, you would think she's crazy. How weird that it happened, eh? Must mean something right?

How do you know what Genesis says is true?

My reasoning on this is simple. There is no evidence to suggest god does exist, so I have no position. A long time ago a guy wrote a book because he was bored, in the 21st century they call them comics, and they go by the name of superhero's, not gods. Simply, no proof.

If this forum is empty/inactive, surely the first place to start is a reasoned debate that resolves on facts primarily, and not opinion.

That's not even close to being true; all planets orbit in ellipses, and the difference in the perihelion (closest point to the sun) and aphelion (furthest point from the sun) of the earth is approx. 3.1 million miles (16 368 million feet). You're therefore off by a factor of over 1.5 billion.

I think a decent case can be made for a deistic prime mover, but nobody's done justice in presenting that position.

 

In addition to what Jimmy said I'd like you to think about what you are saying. The earth spins. This means that at night you are thousands of miles further from the sun and yet you do not freeze. Now you are saying that if you are 10 feet more you will freeze to death? Thousands of feet further back and the temperature barely drops yet 10 feet further and it drops what, 100 degrees to be truly frozen? That makes absolutely no sense at all.

 

I think he was referring to the sensitivity to Earth's position and mass, relative to the positions and masses of all the other planets and the sun, that allows the Earth to follow its orbit without slowly spiraling inward or being "launched" outward away from the sun.

In all honesty, the theory of an infinite universe is more my take on things than a God figure creating this one universe specifically to be perfect.

There isn't enough proof to say he doesn't exist.

I do believe in God though. I'm a christian and proud of it.
