The Official Combat Beta Thread

Does anyone else think this update will follow the path of the Bounty Hunter system in the wilderness? I sure hope... I mean, its almost guaranteed they will get a large negative reaction with the amount of things they're changing..

 

Half of the weapons' prices will drop ten fold... A lot of them will be pretty much useless now.
Since this is a beta, I hope everyone speaks up and tell Jagex to keep the special attacks on weapons...

 

I dont want spec taken away :/. Damnit.

 

What about summoning tanks with the sole purpose of keeping combat low?

 

The only thing I can imagine is something similar to WoW

 

If Jagex resorts to a WoW type game I quit.. I don't wanna buy pieces or whatever from Walmart of Gamestop.. I also don't wish to unlock skills as you play.. I think that's how WoW is (from what I've heard)..

 

Reading through I see a couple people mentioning WoW.
With the updates it sort of seems like it's going to have more in common with WoW than it did before.
Making the combat triangle more balanced? I think it's fine how it is to be honest, in PvP I don't see rangers or mages getting their asses handed to them.
As for removing the special bar, I think that's disapointing :c

 

IMO, this will lessen my boredom in runescape

I'm excited in this updated. for better or for worst, if it goes for worst. I'm sure Jagex will do what they can to improve it for better.

 

You guys are only picking up the negatives... J Mods clearly posted that specials attacks will be removed (yes that sucks) HOWEVER, weapons losing the specs will be getting "bad-ass stats". They're going to buffer weapon's lose of SA's with stats. Also note they are not only reworking the skills but the stats on the majority of our weaponry...Now as far as pures, GF U TRIED. Trolled. No but really i knew eventually they would Nerf pures. They never have liked pures from the start.

Personally I didn't like pures and I don't like them now either..I hate trying to pk on my ~100 well rounded acc to get some kid with 99 att/str rushing me with dclaws and downing me when his def is 1...


As for the bad-ass stats.. well I doubt they will be that much greater for the lower levels.. Jagex said you did have to train to unlock abilities and such so I think it'll be kinda pissy for the people just starting combat.. then again they're probably going to overpower the weapons as usual

 

hmm. I'm a bit worried.. I KNOW maaaaaaany players will quit because of this and not necesserely old players.

I agree with many in this thread about the WoW feel they seem to be aiming for. And i also agree with that they should just keep Rs like it was. Not changing something that doesn't need to be changed (old armor for example.)

Now they've ruined the armor, font, and now they are changing the COMBAT! Great.

Well, I'll check it out when it gets released but I already "quit" back in dec 2011 so I'm not going to start playing rs again.. I just go in from time to time to check it out and check for names. that's all. Not going to play even if it's a OK update.

I don't have any pures so that doesn't affect me and lol idc if they kill pures.. I'm just thinking i'll never train combat again! Just like i've completely stopped using the Armor on any accs Bronze - Rune was ALL sold when they made it ugly and now if they ruin combat I'll just never train combat again. :3

 

Im sure as hell gonna miss the old cb. What hybridding gonna be like?? Lets just w8 and see

i think this will mess up PVP alot i just dont see a point in doing this its Runescape and its not supposed to be like this if they remove the special bar that will ruin alot. this may be useful in PVM but in PVP itll just completly ruin it imo

I don't think it'll mess up PVP.. I think it'll actually give it skill now.. like actual skill instead of luck where you just sit there attacking each other hoping to hit high.. I think this will require you to do a lot and maybe require certain tactics and such

 

are they joking, polypore and storm of armadyl are ridiculous.

considering the core changes the game has had since late 2007 with the implementation of the grand exchange, player vs player changes and changes to many skills, the combat system is one of the only surviving aspects of early rs2.

while revamping the combat system will signify the end of an era, it has been arguably overdue. A fresh combat system could breath new interest into this aging and stagnant game, and while recent updates have permanently tarnished fan support and altered the game from what it once was, this update might make this game worth playing for a new audience.

That said, if this update is not well received, it could very much mean the end of this dying game. Jagex really does have a pivotal task ahead of them, and I am excited to see the newest incarnation of the game that used to be, RuneScape.

 

If you remember when the wildy was taken away.. the loss that jagex had was incredible.. then when free trade was taken away.. it got even worse..

Now jagex did give them back, but now think of all the people who are vets like myself and you (I think).. this is going to be kinda sad.

If it's terrible or completely different, I won't be doing combat at all.. I'm already maxed so I will have no need..

The losses if this turns out to be a wash will be tremendous.. this will result in Jagex turning to things like the SOF etc for money.. this game will be one "who's wallet is the biggest" type of game.

Personally I thought rs died a long time ago

 

I'm not so sure I like it, I guess we'll see when beta opens up though.
