Are You Addicted to Runescape?

Hey everyone, I intended to make this thread yesterday but I couldnt get on the site.

The title basically says it all. The point of this thread isnt to give me the old generic response, "yeah I play Runescape but I am the pussy destroyer", not only do I or mostly anybody else give one - this is not the thread for it.

I mean, I'm not addicted personally like I need to skip school to play or I ditch going out with people to play but lets dumb down the word's meaning for a sec and give it a more mild connotation.

How long have you guys been on the snowballing effect with Runescape? You do one nice thing, you reach one nice goal and you want more? After getting 99 fletching you get 99 cooking to trim your "bland" green cape that you HAD to have, after 99 cooking you get 99 combat's and decide you need higher prayer so you buy gold because who the hell would waste their time collecting gold and wow does that open up a lot of things. A year goes by and you are botting a java-based game 6 hours a day and are spending a hundred dollars just to get a "99" next to the crafting icon.

The sad truth is that most of us seem to forget the purpose of the game and that is to have fun. Immediately after I reach a goal I usually feel accomplished for 2 hours but then get used to it and strive on for a new goal. This goes for 99's as well. It seems with Runescape that there will never be enough sometimes for some people and sometimes that person ends up with a max cape.

What do you guys think? Sometimes do you feel as though your intrinsic motivation is just a motivation based off of feeling "good" and having good "numbers"? As your game time is devoted to training and feeling the need/urge to rather than to have fun?

Edit: On a second note, I remember when 99's felt like you actually earned something like 5-7 years ago and deserved a cape because of your hard work - now many 99's are standards. "You cant boss here if you dont have ovl's, turm, yak and a chaotic". Think how much time goes into 96 herblore, 95 prayer, 96 summoning and 80 DG alone - nevermind anything else. Psychologically, that is grind central, there is a slim chance that majority of people think training all of that and preparing all of that money for those skills is a fun thing to do.

 

I don't play Runescape.

 

I'm addicted to Runescape, but not addicted to playing it. I stopped actually playing a while back but i still find myself watching RS videos such as ChrisArchieProds daily videos and random pk videos as i like the big mix of different music you get as you flick through.

Still have a butchers round on Sythe every other day etc. Only reason i actually quit was because my main got a huge rollback, but essentially I'm glad it happened, otherwise i'd still be playing.

The way I've always seen it, this is the 3 step equilibrium of Runescape:

Start as a legit player > EVENTUALLY start to get bored, get into RWT/Botting/Bug Abuse

Become a cheat player > EVENTUALLY lose interest playing as the computer does it for you, or you got banned and raged

Quit

 

When I use to play on a daily basis, I was more of the money-hungry type. I never really liked putting my GP to use unless the skill didn't cost too much. I mostly trained skills that didn't require GP. I remember I had an extremely high Defence level for my combat level. I was a Defence noob (that's what people would call me anyways). I tried going for 99 Defence but gave up (I reached 96). I didn't feel the urge anymore. Not to mention, It was too time consuming. It was fun at first and that's what kept me going. I lost the interest to RuneScape a long time ago and now whenever I play it, I ask myself, how this will benefit me? It usually doesn't so I don't feel the urge to play it. I don't play RuneScape anymore. Quit playing a few years ago.

I've aways been addicted to pking, but that's about it. I havent gotten into skill since around 04. I've actually pked up to 99 str back in 2005-2007. As of now, I come and go I can't really get into p2p pking anymore but i do get on and f2p once and a while.

I was addicted more when I was rich in the game because I could afford to do a lot. I would lose track time. My solution that is if you're bored, why not pass some time? I used to smoke a bowl or two, play RS for about 30 minutes and smoke another bowl. It helped time go by.

 

With all the new updates.... Not anymore..

I think I'm an addict (once again ^_^).
It used to be my favourite game when I was a noob and everything was up to me. Then I discovered sythe and botting, which didnt really affect how much I enjoyed it. Quit for a few years, just came back to it. It seems to be my go to game. There's so much for me to do in it.

 

I used to play the game like everyday when I was a kid, but not anymore as I have grown.

Edit: It may sound like that Runescape is for kids, but that's absolutely not my point. I've just realized and learnt how to use my sparetime better so it became sensible.

 

I stopped playing runescape once I found out I could bot it. I still go on from time to time to see whats up.

 

I rotate games a lot, Runescape a few months ago, SWTOR last week, DA2 this week. So no, I wouldn't say I was.

 

I guess I used to be addicted when I was younger and still enjoyed playing the game. Now I only do AFKable skills while I browse other websites or watch movies/TV, throwing in an occasional farm run. I just don't find Runescape to be fun like other games; I sometimes play the Sims because it's FUN, but I only play Runescape if there's absolutely nothing else to do or if I'm multi-tasking. If it weren't for the overpriced $15 monthly fee, I'd probably be playing WoW instead (I'm not sure if this is the exact price).
I do find it incredible that people can actually make a living off of Runescape, like the handful of Sythe users who make over $100k per year. All of this from a mediocre Java-based game that everyone just bots instead of actually playing. And then there are the stakers who earn 2 billion GP each day. Pretty amazing.

Not in anyway...I really want to be tbh...Maybe not addicted, but I want to have fun on rs like I used to...Now it's just a bunch of shit to me, but alas, I still try...

To me, it's like this now. I want to go bossing for example, than I think, well, I need at least a dfs to tank a little bit while soloing. So than I think, I will need to get the 6m or so for it. So than I think, ok, lets kill some bots, than I think, I should get 80 mage for poly so I can kill them easier and faster. So than I think I need to get 3k alchs and do it...Than I say fuck it and log off...

That was basically what happened yesterday. That is just one example. You need money to do things, you need high stats to make decent money (or a lot of time). Now that I know all the things I need to get places in this game, thinking about all the things I need to do is exhausting...

 

No haven't been for like 3 years, rarely play these days but was at one point addicted.
