Laptop Or Desktop Help Me Decide

Looking to buy either a laptop or a desktop can't really decide also would like suggestion on the actual product to buy. Right now I have my eye on this hp envy 15 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006PCDJI2/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER

I will be using the computer for runescape/web browsing/ youtube/music/podcasts ect. not looking to spend over $1300.

 

In my opinion, get a desktop. Laptops are disposable and you'll be junking it in a couple of years, with a desktop, you have so many more options. You can build a great--excellent custom rig for under/around $900.

 

Desktop, build it yourself, spend a grand and have a high end gaming pc, spend 600 and it can do everything that you just listed. If you buy a laptop the only reason you are buying it is if you travel a lot. BUILD YOUR OWN DESKTOP. I can help you if youd like, performance is un-questionably better.

 

I've built one before it lasted like a year and a half then had unknown problems.

 

Could happen with anything electronic. The best bet is still building one.

Are there any good desktops that are pre-built. I know alienware charges for a name and a look but what about them?

 

Building your own you usually get a better deal, and you can suit it to your own needs. Alienware are good, but it is worth looking at building your own.

 

These people are talking about performance... what you said you'll be doing doesn't really require much performance. Honestly, I like being able to lay down in my bed, move to the kitchen, the living room, school, work, outside, the bathroom after Taco Tuesday... etc. Sure, you sacrifice specs but you gain portability.

Anywho, I got a Dell back in like August or something that was decent and under 1,300.

What I got:
3-D screen, 17 inches, a pair of 3-D glasses
6 GB RAM (upgraded to 14 for $20 due to a sale on Newegg)
2.2Ghz Quad Core i7
Blu-ray writer (which was $150 addon - I'm stupid... don't get a BRay writer)
Graphics: GT 555M 1GB =/

Model was XPS 17...

Main issue: It looks horrible.

 

Year and a half? 90% of the parts in a custom built computer (Unless purchased used) have at least a 3-5 year warranty, should check that out.

 

Desktop which I say is more worth while. At the same price, the desktop will be more powerful.

 

Desktop for Gaming.
Laptop for portability.

It's really simple.

tigerdirect.com and newegg.com can help you, don't spend that much money on a pre-made pc when you can get a cheaper one thats even better.
