    Where Does The Fat Go?

People go on diets to lose fat and it works; stay on a diet for a while and you lose weight and fat.

So I was wondering, where does it all go?
I'm certain that our body doesn't just digest it and just shit it out, or do we?

This was on my mind for a couple of days now, so I thought that I'd ask.

    Where Does The Fat Go?

I think this is how it works.
If you are fat it is excess fat/sugar etc from your diet that your body has no need for so it stores it. When you are working out and maintaining a diet your body needs to use some of it as you are less fit, thus reducing it.

    Where Does The Fat Go?

You use the fat as energy.

Going on a diet, but not moving at all won't work, as you're not using energy. So if you're on a diet and exercise, the fat is used. The reason why a diet works is you're eating less which means you have less energy intake than you're using so you're body is using the fat stored to keep alive..

    Where Does The Fat Go?

Fats / sugars / whatever are converted to ATP, which forms molecular energy for the cells. When ATP is burned it forms ADP energy is released. The ADP molecule then can be reformed as ATP. However, because of the second law of thermodynamics, the actual conversion rate isn't 100% and so you have to eat to stay alive.

    Where Does The Fat Go?

Well the body uses various metabolic pathways to burn carbohydrate, fat and protein. Stored fat (ie around your gut) and protein (muscles) are able to be metabolised when there is not enough intake of carbohydrate/fat/protein from your diet.

The krebs cycle causes oxidation of acetates which come from fat/carbs/protein to produce carbon dioxide + water + ATP. Glycolysis is the other pathway which both uses ATP and produces it. Oxidative phosphorylation is the main process which produces the most ATP for cells. ATP is the main energy source used to fuel cellular processes in the body.

So basically excess food (mix of carb/protein/fat for example) if it isn't being metabolised by the body, it's because you're energy needs aren't high enough. The main way to increase energy needs is to exercise. The way a diet works basically is that you reduce your intake of food AND you exercise so that your body can only metabolise/burn what you have stored already as fat/glycogen etc since it isn't able to get it from food (which you are lacking).

Think of it like water, it evaporates when it is hot. That is the basic concept. Sounds weird when you think of it like that.

Wait, so are you guys basically saying that it evaporates (turns into energy and is emitted from our body?)
^does this pretty much sum up what everybody else said?

You know what, maybe I'll try eating period blood. Who knows, it might unlock all the knowledge in the universe.

    Where Does The Fat Go?

Well all the excretions like heat, sweat, urine, feces are biproducts of the body's processes. So yeah most of it leaves that way.

    Where Does The Fat Go?

Fats are actually stored energy in our body. Once we are using more energy than we in-take, the body burns these reserve.

The fats then turns mostly to heat.
