Viewing child porn in NYC is now legal

Kind of makes me sick that it is legal, only mental people or anyone with issues would want to see it, its just going to cause problems.

I disagree completely with this. Although it is still illegal to have sexual intercourse with minors, I still oppose that being able to view them explicitly is quite frankly, terrible.

Neither of you read the article. You just read the subject of the thread and posted. The ruling established a judicial precedent differentiating viewing and actively downloading illegal pornography.

 

I completely agree with you. The point is to read with attention the law and not to screaming only after have read the title of any news.

 

Its a good ruling too I agree, because before you could have simply hit a link to website that has a big gallery of child porn and if anyone reported you, you were likely facing jail time.

 

I actually just read this in an article the other day.

I believe it's good in some regards, like if you were to accidentally stumble across a child porn link. I do not like the idea that it could possibly "protect" pedophiles and other weirdos that can now go online and view child porn to their hearts content via a legal loophole.

Child porn is still child porn, and whether you posses is, or are simply viewing it, I think it's still wrong. Personally, I believe that with this law in place, it should not legalize the viewing of CP but instead give law enforcement and the courts the ability to use their own discretion in these cases. There is a major difference between prosecuting somebody for willingly viewing CP night after night, and somebody who accidentally stumbles across a page containing child porn, or whose computer is compromised or use by another person who decides to look at child porn.

 

I pretty much agree with you on the subject.. ANYONE who looks at pornography on the internet runs the risk of accidentally stumbling into child pornography and tbh most people have probably inadvertently fapped to it! Most "child porn" cases are pertaining to girls that are 16-17 many pornstars have allegedly started their career "early". With the nature of most free porn sites where people can post/share pictures and videos you simply will never know what your looking at. All that said i can understand that facet of the law. Kiddie porn is not cool anyone who knowingly looks at it should be SEVERLY punished and counseled heavily as sex offenders are nearly always repeat offenders

 

I think that if someone is caught making child pornography than they should be harshly punished.

I don't think anything that's online should be illegal. The internet should be the dark underbelly of the world filled with hopes, dreams, and desires.

Aka- internet is Satan's playground, let's leave it that way.

Screw sopa, dopa, popa, or whatever acronym the newest Act the government has tried to pass. What someone does online should stay private, and without risk of punishment for simply seeing something that one doesn't want to see.

sounds good, if watching child porn is legal perhaps it will stop some people from accualy doing it
although now that people can watch it, it may become big buisness.... and get more people watching, therefore more children abused. it's hard to tell really.

 

The title of this thread is extremely misleading, and i doubt you read the article based off of what you just said. This new law DOESN'T legalize possesing child pornography, it just makes it so you won' be thrown in jail for having it on your cache. It makes complete sense, because people may have clicked a link to CP by accident, and without this law they could have been jailed.

 

Child Porn...is just not right..Porn should be for people 18+ and should not show any underage teens or kids on them

 

I'm not sure what Judge Carmen Beauchap Ciparick means by ...purposeful, but I'm totally against it in any source of the manner. Whether or not it's aiming towards teens and their relationships (I'm not entirely comprehending the purpose), someone's going to abuse this ability.
