Viewing child porn in NYC is now legal

Child porn is now legal in new york does anyone feel this is a bad thing? Maybe the people who make it should get in trouble for it? Who do you think if you think someone should be punished for the act or the viewing?

Technically it's not legal in my eyes there just isn't a law to go against people that have viewed images of child porn.

My stance is basically it gives breathing space for people that are seeking normal porn an stubble upon child porn by mistake and as long as they don't actively download and share it they can just leave that site or block it. It wasn't fair the FBI some people say will intentionally set people up with links to child porn and prosecute those that clicked the links.

 

It seems reasonable enough.
I guess that it's the about the same as going to meatspin without knowing what it was.

 

I think it is totally fucked up that it is legal in NY to watch child porn. I think that they should can't a huge punishment. Legalizing it is way too stupid. Actors should be punished too and also the director of the money.

 

I think people could still get arrested for offences, if they repeatedly viewed the websites which contained child porn.

Nothing really changed here, they just interpreted the law correctly with respect to modern technology. Seems like a good ruling that sounds really bad.

If you are 18 and your girlfriend 17 sends you a nude and they find out, it's child porn..
So i guess I really have no opinion on it. Seems pointless and they just want to start problems with some ANTI-CHILD PORN group out there

its a good thing. because its not legal as you have said to actively search and download it... it just gives wiggle room to people who may have accidentally have stumbled upon it ..

basically you cant be prosecuted if child porn is simply in your cache

For example, if someone posted child porn on Sythe and you loaded it before that post was deleted and the user was banned, there could be a copy or a thumbnail of it saved in a cache on your computer.

This ruling determined that you would not be liable if something like that were to occur.

 

People are blowing this COMPLETELY out of proportion. Everyone is running around like chicken's with their head's caught off screaming "OMG CHILD PORN IS LEGAL WTF THATS SO NASTY OMG". No. Child porn is NOT legal. However, viewing it on the internet is. Is this bad? No, not at all. All it would take is one witty hacker to get everyone who visits CNN.com arrested for viewing child porn, but now this law prevents it from happening. Also if you're a 4chan user, it prevents you from getting in trouble if you accidentally stumble upon something you shouldn't have.

Now unfortunately this is a loophole for some sick people, but honestly this is going to be protecting more people then it is harming. If someone is really sick and in to child porn its highly probable that they have some saved on their hard drive, which would warrant an arrest.

The law is perfectly fine, nothing is making is legal to search for and watch child porn, it simply protects those who stumble across it while viewing regular porn. It'll be obvious who the offenders are if they try to abuse this.
